Tony´s Tribe is Back!

Steven is running again this year – his focus is not on distance or time but consistent running, having challenged himself to get to the end of 2021 having been out for at least 52 runs (an average of once a week for the year).

Starting early, Steven went for his first run on New Year’s Day running his first 5k, and as of early September has managed 35 (mostly 5k) runs.

So Steven has project managed well and remains on target for 52 runs in 2021 at least, but after a risk assessment has noted that with autumn and winter on the way he needs to adapt and make the most of the fine weather that remains.

Steven says “I will push myself to run as many times as I can in September to coincide with my friends and colleagues epic efforts in memory of Tony Rees and to raise money for such a good cause. They will be walking huge distances, running the Great North Run, completing 9 hour tennis marathons and Welsh Cake Bake-a-thons among other things, good luck to them all!”

Tony´s Tribe is Back!

Rebecca decided to push herself out of her comfort zone for the 2021 Tony’s Tribe challenge…

Having never been near a paddleboard in her life Becky will be attempting to paddleboard pub to pub along the river Stour in Bournemouth – a distance of just over 5 kilometers.

Bournemouth is full of paddle boarders and Becky is usually found riverside in a pub spectating rather than attempting it herself, so she decided it’s about time she gave it a go!

Becky said, “First challenge will be getting on the thing, second will be standing up! If I manage that much I will be happy”.

Stay dry Becky!

Toni´s Tribe is Back!
After last year's cancellation (replaced by a "virtual" half marathon through the forest), Jo is finally going to experience the thrill of the Great North Run for the first time. She's beyond excited at the chance to run across the Tyne bridge in her hometown with the Red Arrows flying overhead. After several months of carefully project managed training, she's raring to go and is hoping the power of crowd will spur her on to achieve a sub 2 hour time (no pressure!). Tune in to BBC1 on Sunday 12th September to see if you can spot her amongst the 57,000 runners!
Go Jo!! There'll be a Greggs near the finish line if you need any extra motivation!

Tony´s Tribe is Back!

Alison's challenge: 6-hour Welsh Cake bake-a-thon to
music!-impressive hey?

Alison loves being in a warm kitchen, playing some awesome tunes (Greatest Hits Radio - FM 96.0) and if some money can be raised as a result, then my Tony's Tribe challenge is set and it's my absolute pleasure to do it for Tony's legacy!

Here are the all-important numbers: 12 batches of cake mix = 15 cakes per batch = 180 cakes = 30 bags = 6 cakes per bag....to be sold or most likely given away in return for a donation to the charity.

Alison reckons she'll never get to cook in the Masterchef kitchen or strut her stuff on Strictly..but we have faith in her great Tony's Tribe Bake Off! Good luck Alison!

Tony´s Tribe is Back!

Last year Andy ran a half marathon for Tony's Tribe with fellow triber Jo. Walking and running are both passions of Andy's so this year, while in training for another half marathon, Andy has chosen a walking challenge for Tony's Tribe 2021.

Andy's going to be walking the 102 miles of the Cotswold Way over 7 days. The Cotswold Way follows a route through the Cotswold Hills from Bath to Chipping Camden. And yes, you read that right-102 miles!!

It's actually part of a longer walk that Andy is undertaking, which in turn is part of a long-term project to walk from Land's End to John O'Groats!

Good luck Andy!

Tony´s Tribe is Back!

We asked Tracey why she chose 10k as her Tony’s Tribe challenge and she replied:“I’ve always run 10ks, half marathon. But in 2016, I contracted sepsis which attacked my spine and CNS and had to learn to walk again. But by 2019, I had managed a slow Glasgow half marathon. Then later in the year, my joints swelled and I stopped running again. Diagnosed with a form of rheumatoid arthritis, I fell back to square one and started again. So when I saw Tony’s Tribe I had no choice really— it just had to be a run! I started at 2 miles and worked up.”

Inspirational, eh? Go Tracey!!!

Tony’s Tribe is Back!
Similar to last year, the 2021 team is getting involved in some socially safe activities to raise money for Cancer Research UK in Tony Rees’ memory.
We are thrilled to carry on this tradition by honoring the memory of a wonderful man and supporting a great charity.
Watch this space over the next few weeks to see further details of what the team is up to.
We now have a Tony’s Tribe website https://bit.ly/3ylcVko where you’ll be able to follow the team, see what everyone’s doing and see details of how to donate. You can also donate directly via our JustGiving page https://bit.ly/3ymunoG
