Bay Tree Autumn Fruits
I use a lot of bay leaves in cooking. The fragrant leaves are lovely in a wide range of dishes, plus they are hugely beneficial for the gut microbiome and help with better digestion. They are strongly antimicrobial and make a good, quick, fresh tea if you have a tummy upset.

In Autumn, the female bay trees bear fruit that the birds will eat when ripe (glossy black rather than green in the photo)

Autumnal burst of Young Nettles for Health
There's probably not a better, cheaper, abundant wild plant that delivers so much health as nettle leaves. It's important to use the young leaves and these appear in the autumn if they've been cut down recently.

Rich in most vitamins and minerals, they also contain anti-inflammatory biochemistry and some degree of protein (dry weight at 25% to 30%)

My Tiny English Olives!
We love having olive trees in our garden because we use the leaves medicinally and occasionally we get these tiny Olives.
Olive leaves are incredibly antiviral. Sizing up the virus, the olive uses multiple methods( biochemistry) to cease its duplicating abilities whilst duping it to think it's duplicating!

Hawthorn for The Heart
I took these photos in late August when my local hedgerows were a blaze of red and orange. The Autumnal weather has since turned its leaves. I've also shown you the large seed inside each berry, which is rich in pectin. The entire biochemistry of hawthorn berries is a potent heart and vascular supportive, helping with any issues in those areas.

Reduce Inflammation & Eat Well - https://mailchi.mp/herbs-hands-healing/october-2025-newsletter-reduce-inflamation-eat-well

Autumn can be a good time to look into honing better food choices, reducing any excess weight and lowering overall inflammation. With Summer long over and the arrival of colder weather, we naturally turn to comfort foods, which can then prompt excess weight gain for some, with an increase in inflammation overall. Instead, I will be encouraging warming foods and herbs to help lower inflammation and yet importantly, further warm up the body.

Rosy Rosehips
Stunning reds aren't they. Earlier in the year, these were wild 'dog' roses with their pretty pale pink petals.

Rosehips are an excellent nutritional source of food as they contain high levels of vitamins and are worth adding to morning smoothies as a powder.

Squirrels Acorn Harvest
Squirrels plant thousands of oak trees every year as they harvest the acorns in huge quantities. And then don't need all they've gathered. Thank you, squirrels.

Plantain Grows Anywhere
This tough, adaptive plant loves growing anywhere it can. Plantago lanceolata is the species pictured here, pushing through the concrete!

Plantain heals any damaged tissue, inside or outside the body. So it will heal the gut, lungs, colon or help external cuts mend.

Ginkgo Harvested
The optimal time to harvest ginkgo leaves is when they are mostly yellow and slightly green.
We need the therapeutic flavonoids shown in the yellow colouring to be present.
Ideally, you would like to make a fresh tea if you have some. As you'll know, this plant is vital for brain and heart health.
