People dressed in costumes and unexpected knocks at the door can be confusing and scary for many dogs. Here are our Halloween top tips:

🎃 Be careful when opening the door so your dog doesn’t accidentally escape

👻 If your dog is really worried, consider a sign saying ‘nervous dog, please do not knock’. You could still leave treats out for children to help themselves

🍬 Keep human sweets and chocolate safely out of your dog’s reach

🧛 Keep dressing up for humans only. Costumes can feel restrictive and prevent your pet from communicating their discomfort

🍂 Autumn Parasite Alert! 🍂
As the seasons change, so do the risks to your pet’s health. Cooler, wetter weather can bring out parasites like harvest mites, fleas, ticks, and even lungworm in dogs.

🔸 Harvest mites – tiny orange pests that cause itching and irritation, especially around paws and ears.
🔸 Fleas – love warm homes and can wake from dormancy when the heating goes on.
🔸 Ticks – found in grassy areas, they latch onto pets and feed on blood.
🔸 Lungworm – spread by slugs and snails, this serious parasite can be fatal if untreated.

✅ Regular flea, tick & worming treatments are your best defence.
💬 If you're unsure about your pet’s protection plan, speak to your vet.
Prevention is always better than cure! 🐾

On Sunday 26th October, the clocks go back one hour as British Summer Time ends. While this gives us an extra hour in bed, it can disrupt our pets’ routines, especially feeding and walking schedules.

Animals thrive on consistency, so sudden changes can cause confusion or anxiety. To help ease the transition, consider gradually adjusting your pet’s routine over a few days leading up to the change. A little preparation can make a big difference in keeping your furry friends happy and settled.

Have you noticed your pet reacting to the time change before? Share your stories or tips below - we’d love to hear them! 🐶🐱🕒

As we start to enjoy crunchy-leaved autumn walks, it's important to be aware of Seasonal Canine Illness (SCI) - a rare condition that can affect dogs during the autumn months.

Symptoms usually appear 1-3 days after a woodland walk. These symptoms can have many causes, but it's worth knowing that SCI is one possibility, even though it's thankfully very rare.

Some areas are known to be associated with cases and we advise looking out for signage and keeping an eye on local news. Don’t worry though - the vast majority of woodland walks are perfectly safe.

❓ What causes SCI?
The exact cause is still unknown; awareness and early treatment is key.

📞 Worried about your dog?
If your dog shows any unusual symptoms after a woodland walk, contact your vet.

Stay safe and enjoy your autumnal adventures! 🍁

Maybe a stray turns up and never leaves. Maybe a friend asks you to “temporarily” look after theirs. Or maybe a kitten appears just when you weren’t looking.

It’s all part of what the internet calls the cat distribution system - a tongue-in-cheek way of describing how cats seem to end up exactly where they’re meant to be.

October is Black Cat Awareness Month - a time to celebrate these sleek, mysterious, and often misunderstood felines. Despite their charm and beauty, black cats are sadly less likely to be adopted due to outdated myths and superstitions. This month is all about changing perceptions and showing the world just how wonderful black cats truly are.
