Healing Sounds by Gabriel
My name is Gabriel and I'm a certified reiki & accredited gong and sound practitioner. I discovered the magical beauty of sounds & music in my childhood. I played in several rock-metal bands in my early twenties. I started my spiritual journey more than 11 years ago by doing Usui Reiki and I have been a Reiki master for 9 years. Soon afterwards I found out about Sound Therapy and all the benefits it provides. My latest journey with sound and gong is to train with Gyorgy Kray and Zsuzsanna Farago of the Gong Academy and become a Elisabeth Dierlich Gong and Sound Massage Practitioner. I offer 1:1 Reiki Sound Massage sessions using Hands, Gongs, Crystal and Tibetan Singing Bowls which are placed on the body and gently toned and sounded. I also offer Group Sound Bath sessions with Gongs, Singing Bowls, Shamanic Drums, Chimes, Tubes, Bells and other sacred instruments collected from my travels around the world. SoonI released my first ambient/atmospheric/eclectic/relaxing style album called Journey of Sounds. Find some tracks on SoundCloud and YouTube. Emotions don’t just live in our minds—they also have a profound effect on our physical bodies. This chart beautifully illustrates how different emotions can manifest as physical tension in specific areas of the body. For example, stress often shows up in the shoulders, while grief may be stored in the hips. Understanding where these emotions are held can help you recognize patterns and work through emotional blockages.

By incorporating mindful practices such as yoga, meditation, and breathwork, you can begin to release these stored emotions. Focusing on areas of tension and engaging in deep, restorative practices will help ease physical discomfort while promoting emotional healing. Yoga poses that open the chest, stretch the hips, or relax the neck can help release emotional stress stored in these areas.

Understanding how your body stores emotions is the first step towards releasing them. Regular practice of mindfulness and bodywork can help you connect more deeply with your emotional and physical well-being. How do you release emotional tension from your body? Let us know your favorite healing practices! 🌿💆‍♀️

What if relaxation didn’t start with silence, but with sound?

A group sound bath is a shared relaxation experience where participants are immersed in therapeutic sounds created by instruments such as singing bowls, gongs, chimes, or drums. Unlike traditional meditation that often focuses on breath or mental concentration, sound baths use vibration and resonance to guide the body and mind into a deeper state of rest.

During a group session, people usually lie down comfortably while the practitioner creates layers of sound. These vibrations interact with the nervous system and may help shift the body from a state of stress into a more restorative state. Many participants report feeling deeply relaxed, mentally clearer, or emotionally lighter after a session.

Practicing in a group setting can add another dimension to the experience. The shared space often creates a sense of collective calm, where participants support a quiet, attentive atmosphere together. This can make it easier for individuals to let go of daily distractions and settle into stillness.

Research on sound and vibration suggests that certain frequencies may influence brainwave activity, potentially encouraging slower brainwave patterns associated with relaxation and meditation. While experiences vary from person to person, group sound baths are commonly used as a complementary practice for stress reduction, mindfulness, and overall well-being.

It is not about “doing” anything or achieving a specific result. The invitation is simply to listen, rest, and allow the body to respond naturally to the sounds.

What kind of effect do you think sound and vibration can have on our body and mind?

What are the qualities of a good sound practitioner?

All wellness practitioners need to do their own regular practice that includes self-reflections. Being aware of our own “stuff” and how to process it is essential.

A good sound practitioner also needs to be a good listener to create a safe and professional space in which clients can explore their therapeutic journey without fear or anxiety.

Anyone working with sound should have a good relationship with their instruments too as no two instruments are ever identical. This comes with practice and musical knowledge.

The final element is that practitioner should have had in depth, professional training. This helps them know which playing techniques create certain sounds and how to create a sound session that “lives and breathes” rather than one that falls flat.

We ensure that any BAST alumni leave our training courses fully ready for the world of sound with a host of safe, practiced, therapeutic practices under their belt.
