We’ve recently done spotlights on our three main waxes within our sports range: Sports Massage Wax, Fascial Release Wax, and Fascial Release Wax Super Grip. These waxes have been carefully developed to be ideal for use in sports and remedial massage and bodywork.

If you work in the world of sports and remedial therapy and you’re new to our products, you may be wondering which of these waxes is best for you. Let’s compare them in more detail…

✨ INGREDIENTS ✨
You may be surprised to know that all 3 of these products are variations on the same recipe. Unlike our other massage waxes, they each contain Calendula paste and Hypericum for added skin-soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, along with Lemon oil and Manuka oil which give these waxes their distinctive lemony/leathery scent. They also contain a higher percentage of Arnica than our other massage waxes, which is traditionally used to help soothe muscle pain, stiffness, sprains, and bruises.

The main difference between these 3 products is their beeswax content…
🔹 Sports Massage Wax: contains the same amount of beeswax as our other massage waxes.
🔹 Fascial Release Wax: contains more beeswax than Sports Massage Wax.
🔹 Fascial Release Wax: contains even more beeswax!

✨ GRIP RATING ✨
🔹 Sports Massage Wax: 5 – ideal for massage work.
🔹 Fascial Release Wax: 8 – ideal for myofascial release work, or massage where a stronger grip is required.
🔹 Fascial Release Wax Super Grip: 10 – not intended for general massage, but ideal for myofascial release work where a very strong grip is required.
(Grip Rating Scale: 1 = Least Grip / 10 = Most Grip)

✨ VARIATIONS ✨
🔹 Sports Massage Wax: also available in a vegan version, and as a Liquiwax (Liquiwaxes have a grip rating of 2).
🔹 Fascial Release Wax: also available in a vegan version.
🔹 Fascial Release Wax Super Grip: only available in beeswax, not vegan – because when it comes to a strong grip, nothing compares to beeswax!

There you have it – one carefully created formula transformed into three distinct products.

Which is your favourite wax to use from our sports range? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Welcome to the Library of Massage Wax!

Our new, expanded packing room is tantalisingly close to being finished. It’s been like a game Tetris here; moving shelves and stock between rooms as we keep the day-to-day business functioning while clearing space for the builders to continue the renovations.

This week, we started moving product into the almost-ready new packing room (artfully arranged into this temporary library-esque formation!), so the builders can start transforming our old packing room into a dedicated lidding & labelling room.

Never a quiet day here at Songbird Naturals!

Need even more grip during your treatments? Our Fascial Release Wax: Super Grip has the strongest grip of all our products!

We developed this recipe after the success of our original Fascial Release Wax, for those of you who wanted an even stronger grip during your treatments. It contains exactly the same ingredients as both our original Fascial Release Wax and our Sports Massage Wax, including Calendula paste, Hypericum, Arnica, Lemon oil and Manuka oil. But, it has a much stronger grip thanks to a higher beeswax content. Indeed, it almost feels like a solid block of beeswax at first!

Like all of our products, our Fascial Release Wax: Super Grip melts onto the skin upon application, but the working plateau starts right from the beginning of application and there is very little oil left on the skin at the end of the treatment.

Needless to say, the slip is very limited and this is a product that’s not designed for general massage. However, it is ideal for specific deep tissue and myofascial release work where a very tight grip is required for extra precision.

Our Fascial Release Wax: Super Grip is available to purchase here: https://www.songbirdnaturals.co.uk/fascial-release-wax-super-grip.html

This particular product is not available in a vegan version; the reason simply being because when it comes to massage waxes with a strong grip, nothing compares to pure beeswax! We find that plant-based wax is just a little too soft to be able to give a ‘super grip’ status. However, our standard Fascial Release Wax is available in a vegan option if you need a vegan product with a stronger grip than a regular Massage Wax.

Are you a Super Grip super fan? We’d love to hear how you find using this extra-grippy wax during your treatments.

One of the perks of an early start in the office is getting to see some spectacular sunrises as we approach the farm.

Thanks to Songbird team member Ruby for photographing this stunning scene the other day, just outside our office. How lucky we are to get to appreciate such incredible views in this beautiful part of the country.

Our Fascial Release Wax is always a firm-favourite during this time of year, thanks in part to a busy sporting season.

Fascial Release Wax is actually a version of our popular Sports Massage Wax. It contains the same essential oils and plant oils as our Sports Massage Wax recipe, but is firmer in texture and thus has more grip than our regular massage waxes. This makes it ideal for myofascial release work.

We developed this wax in consultation with James Earls – international lecturer in myofascial release techniques and anatomy – and it was created to give therapists a tighter grip for extra tissue control.

Fascia is the fibrous connective tissue that surrounds, supports, and interconnects all structures of the body, including muscles, organs, and nerves. As a living tissue, it can adapt and remodel in response to movement patterns, posture, and tension. Myofascial release is a manual therapy technique that applies gentle, sustained pressure to help reduce fascial restrictions, improve mobility, and promote relaxation.

Our Fascial Release Wax provides the ideal grip for working with the fascia, allowing therapists to manipulate it in a wide variety of ways. Used extensively in Physiotherapy, Osteopathy and Sports Massage, it is also ideal for therapists who prefer a tighter grip for deep tissue work, or those simply looking for a massage medium that offers extra control.

So, if you’re looking for a massage medium that gives excellent grip for more precise control, this could be just what you’re looking for! If you’re new to Fascial Release Wax, we’d love to hear how you get on with it.

We’ve been uncovering our office’s farming history this week during our renovation works.

This intriguing structure, set into an old brick wall, was uncovered by the builders the other day. We think it’s an original stone mineral/salt lick holder, often found in old barns or cow byres.

We know that part of the building used to be used as a milking parlour. So, if our guess is correct, the stone structure would have been used for holding mineral licks or water for cows, and likely dates back to when that part of the building was actively used to house cattle.

If you recognise what it is and think it’s something different, we’d love to hear your guesses!

Did you know you can buy any of our waxes and balms in cases of 12? Our cases of 12 are the most cost-effective way of purchasing our products, as they’re 33% cheaper than purchasing each pot individually at full retail price.

You can even do a mixed case of 12, allowing you to choose multiple scents within your case. Just bear in mind that you can’t mix product types or sizes (e.g. you can’t do a mix of Massage Waxes and Reflexology Waxes, or a mix of 100g and 300g pots).

Our website makes it easy to create a mixed case of 12. Just visit the ‘Mixed Cases’ section of our website, choose the size and product type you want, and then have fun selecting the scents you want under the ‘Customise your Case’ section.

If you want to purchase a case of 12 for just one single product, just visit the product on our website and select the ‘Case of 12’ option from the size selection drop-down.

Our cases are ideal for people who get through a lot of wax, or those who want to stock up while getting the best deal.

Please note that, because our cases of 12 are 33% cheaper than purchasing each pot individually, they’re excluded from the 25% Professional Account discount. But we hope you agree that the 33% saving is a great deal!

Which Songbird wax is your favourite to stock up on? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

For us, Autumn always signifies a busy sports season! And we know that for many of you who specialise in sports therapy, our Sports Massage Wax is particularly popular this time of year.

One of our best-selling products, our Sports Massage Wax is one of the original waxes from our sister company in New Zealand – Tui Balms – and has been used by professionals for over 40 years. It is used for massage work on players in premiership football, international rugby, cricket, swimming, ice-hockey, softball, track athletics, rowing and on jockeys… and these are the ones we know about! It has also been used in numerous Football World Cups and at the 2012 London Olympics.

So, what makes our Sports Massage Wax different to our other Massage Waxes? Well, for this wax, we blend in a high quality Calendula Paste and Hypericum (St John’s Wort). It also contains twice as much Arnica as our other Massage Wax blends.

Calendula and Hypericum are both traditionally used to soothe, calm, nourish, heal and protect the skin through their anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant and moisturising properties.

Our Sports Massage Wax also contains essential oils of Manuka (from the same plant used to make Manuka honey) and Lemon. Manuka essential oil is naturally antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, and has been referred to as the 'New Zealand Tea Tree Oil'. Meanwhile, Lemon essential oil has natural antimicrobial and antifungal properties, and provides a subtle refreshing and uplifting scent. With its lemony/leathery scent, this wax is neither herbal nor floral.

This is an excellent pre- and post-event massage medium, but we’ve also had therapists tell us they use it as their general Massage Wax of choice, because they love the subtle scent and the luxurious skin-nourishing benefits.

In addition to Massage Wax, our Sports blend is also available in a Liquiwax and vegan options too.

Have you recently tried our Sports Massage Wax for the first time? Or perhaps you’ve been using it as your go-to wax for years? We’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences of using this popular Massage Wax in the comments.

Did you know that our entire product range is nut-free?

No matter which product you choose – whether our original Massage Wax recipe, vegan versions, Reflexology Wax, Liquiwax, or balms – you can be safe in the knowledge that it’s been created without nut oils.

We made this change back in the summer of 2024, to help make our products suitable for as many people as possible.

We know that, historically, some of you would purchase our vegan products for nut-free massage treatments because our original beeswax-based Massage Waxes contained almond oil. Changing to a nut-free recipe across our entire product range means that those needing a nut-free product needn’t be restricted in which product they choose. Now, the only difference in recipes is that our non-vegan products contain beeswax, and our vegan products contain plant-based wax.

So, if you need a nut-free product, you have just as much choice as everyone else!

If you ever have any questions about which product is right for you, our friendly team is always happy to help. Please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 01749 860387 during office hours, or email info@songbirdnaturals.co.uk

Happy massaging!

Huge congratulations to everyone who took part in this year’s National Massage Championship! It was a pleasure to watch all of the wide ranging skills and techniques on show.

We had a busy couple of days running our stall, so we only had limited opportunities to take photos, but we loved watching snippets of the competition. It’s one of the highlights of our year!

Thank you to everyone who visited our stall during the Pro Beauty show, too. It’s always lovely to see you all in person. If you purchased any of our waxes and balms from us at the show, we hope you’re enjoying your new products, and would love to hear your thoughts.

Until next time 🐝
