Ever noticed how your mind can spiral… even when nothing is actually happening?

That was me at the start of today’s ride — overthinking, anxious thoughts running ten steps ahead, nervous system in fight-or-flight.
So I used the exact tools I teach my clients to regulate their nervous system on the trails:

• Slow your pedalling and your breathing so your heart rate stops driving the panic
• Let the sound of water pull your attention out of your head and back into the present
• Use sight + sound + movement to interrupt the anxiety loop
• Let the trail stabilise you instead of your worries running the show

Within minutes my body had relaxed, the noise in my brain switched off, and I settled into the ride. My first proper test on my new bike and I absolutely loved it ❤️

This is nervous system work. This is what I coach.
Not “mind over matter.”
"Push harder".
"Just ignore it".
Once you know how to work with it, everything changes.

Did you know that doing the thing you don’t want to do actually activates areas of the brain linked to growth, health, and resilience?
Each time you push through resistance, you strengthen willpower and rewire your brain. 🧠

I didn’t want to leave my cosy house for an early run this morning ( I am a night owl)— but once my foot was out the door, I was flying. Eventually this will get easier and become a habit as I m now in training for a marathon❤️.

So, what’s one small thing you could do today that you don’t feel like doing — but know would improve your physical or mental health?

I was too busy listening and networking with some other amazing women in the mountain biking industry at Innerleithen to take many photos.

Lots of experiences, knowledge and great ideas shared with those involved in biking industries already and another day to go.
