The Lakeside Practice

The Lakeside Practice We are a local GP practice in the heart of Askern, Doncaster. Here at The Lakeside Practice, we care for a community of over 9100 patients.

We are a practice of five GP partners and two salaried GPs, assisted by an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, three Practice Nurses, two Health Care Assistants and a Phlebotomist. In practice we also have Physiotherapists, a Dietician, a mental Health Practitioner and a number of clinical Pharmacists. In addition, we currently have four GP Registrars working with us. From time to time we employ locums to cover staff absences. The team is supported by a dedicated Reception and Admin team who are able to help you find the most appropriate appointment and sort out any administrative issues you may have such as sick notes or checking on hospital referral. The surgery has full disabled access and facilities.

🤧 Sharp rise in flu cases as we head into the festive season – and the peak is still to come! 🤧

With just 3 weeks until Christmas, the UK Health Security Agency is urging everyone who’s eligible to get protected against flu and RSV. Cases have risen sharply in the past week, and we’re now seeing more flu infections among adults too.

📈 Flu hospitalisations are up by 63% in just one week, and with all the extra mixing and socialising ahead, numbers are expected to rise even further.

If you’re eligible, join the millions who have already had their free flu vaccine and make sure you’re protected for the festive season. Keep yourself and your loved ones strong and healthy this winter. ❄️💙

You can get the free flu vaccine if you:
➡️ Are aged 65 or over (including those turning 65 by 31 March 2026)
➡️ Under 65 years and have certain long-term health conditions
➡️ Are pregnant
➡️ Live in a care home
➡️ Are the main carer for an older or disabled person, or receive Carer’s Allowance
➡️ Live with someone who has a weakened immune system

💙 Lung Cancer Screening is Back in Doncaster! 💙

We’re pleased to share that the Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) Programme has returned to Doncaster, and eligible patients will soon be receiving their invitation letters.

LCS helps to find lung cancer early, when treatment options - including curative treatment - are more effective. It’s the biggest programme in NHS history aimed at improving early lung cancer diagnosis, and its success means it’s now being rolled out across the country as a national screening programme.

If you or someone you know receives an invite letter, please be reassured it’s genuine - this is not a scam. Attending your screening appointment is very important, even if you feel well and have no symptoms.

If you’ve borrowed a blood pressure monitor from the practice to record your readings at your clinician’s request, please ensure it is returned as soon as possible.

If you have an appointment with Lakeside and see a queue forming outside, please bypass it and head straight to our reception. Last weeks clinic ran really smoothly with hardly any wait and we hope for the same today.
