Doncaster Zone 5-19

Doncaster Zone 5-19 Zone 5-19 help young people be the BEST they can! We offer confidential support & guidance.

We appreciate that life can be tough as a young person, dealing with pressure from school, home and friendship groups and sometimes just feeling like no one understands you. Sometimes you may feel lost and wonder what to do or wonder were to go and who you can talk too? If you feel like you want someone to understand and care, we want you to know your school nurse is there! It’s impossible to list all the things we can help with here but we have summarised some of the key problems we support young people with on a regular basis. Please remember no problem is too small and we are happy to answer any questions you may have.

•Keeping Healthy (physical , emotionally and sexually)
•Immunisations
•Emotional Health ( dealing with life’s “ups and downs” including problems with relationships, friendships, bullying, self-harm and eating disorders)
•Weight Management
•Sexual Health
•Drugs and Alcohol
•Smoking

Christmas can be a wonderful time of year, but it can also be overwhelming, especially for children who often rely on routine, predictability and a calmer pace.

We asked parents in our community to share what really helps them keep things magical while reducing stress. Their top tips are in the graphic below, from pacing presents, to keeping routines steady, to choosing low-pressure ways to celebrate that suit your child’s needs.

Every family’s Christmas looks different, and that’s okay. The most important thing is finding a rhythm that works for you, whether that’s a quiet day at home, spreading activities out over the month, skipping wrapping paper, or serving nuggets instead of turkey.

✨ There’s no “right” way to do Christmas.
✨ Your child’s comfort comes first.
✨ A calmer Christmas is still a magical Christmas.

If you’ve discovered your own helpful strategies, we’d love you to share them in the comments, your ideas could make a huge difference to another family this year 🎄🎅🎁

Advent Day 4
Handwashing

We have see a huge increase over the last couple of weeks of children being absent from school due to illness.
During the winter months we see lots of illness but this year has been particularly high.
Is is extremely important to ensure EVERYONE continues to wash their hands as this will help to stop the spread of infection.
We should all be washing our hands for at least 20 seconds using warm water and soap, which will help to kill of any of those nasty germs!

Exercise is important for everyone. According to the NHS guidelines children aged between 5-18 years should aim for an average of at least 60 minutes of moderate or vigorous intensity physical activity a day across the week.

Reducing the time spent sitting or lying down and breaking up long periods of not moving with some activity has many benefits like;

🔵 Better sleep
🔵 Reduces stress and anxiety
🔵 Boosts mood and self esteem
🔵 Boosts immune system
🔵 Develops muscles and bones
🔵 Maintains a healthy weight
🔵 And much much more!
