📘 EHCPs – What Are They and Who Can Apply? 📘

If your child is struggling in school due to learning difficulties, ADHD, autism, or other additional needs — you may be wondering if they need more help than the school can currently offer.

That’s where an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) can make all the difference. 💡

👥 Who Can Apply?
✅ Parents or carers
✅ Young people aged 16–25
✅ Professionals, including teachers, SENCOs or healthcare staff

🚫 Important: Schools might say "no" or suggest your child doesn’t qualify — but they do not make that decision. Only your local authority can decide whether an assessment is needed. You do not need school permission to apply.

📌 How Do You Apply?
1️⃣ Write to your local council’s SEN department and formally request an EHC needs assessment.
2️⃣ Explain why your child needs more support than their school or college can provide.
3️⃣ Include any evidence you have (this can be a diagnosis, school reports, or professional input — including our comprehensive ADHD assessments).

We were so moved to receive this message from a parent whose daughter was recently assessed through our service. The update? 💌

✅ Her report has been accepted by CAMHS
✅ It's being used to support her ASD pathway referral
✅ She’s been accepted straight onto the NHS ADHD pathway without needing a second diagnosis
✅ She’s now being put forward for melatonin treatment to support her sleep
✅ CAMHS staff were so impressed with our report that they said they'd be "absolutely shocked if she didn’t get a diagnosis!" 👏
