🧠 Did you know… dementia isn’t a normal part of ageing?

It’s caused by diseases that affect the brain, and while memory loss is a common symptom, dementia can also impact communication, mood, and the ability to carry out everyday tasks.

🐾 A Very Special Visit at Our Day Centre! 🐾

This week we had some furry friends join us! 🐶🐰🐾

Animals have a wonderful way of connecting with people, especially those living with dementia. Their calm presence, gentle movements, and unconditional affection help reduce anxiety, spark memories, and encourage conversation.

For many of our attendees, time with animals brings:

🎡 Fun, Laughter & Fairground Magic! 🎉

Last week at the Day Centre, we brought the fairground indoors and what a fab day it was! From ring-toss challenges to mini duck-pond fishing, the room was filled with smiles, cheers, and plenty of friendly competition.

The absolute best part? Hearing the laughter echoing around the room as everyone joined in. Moments like these remind us how powerful play can be, sparking memories, building connection, and bringing pure happiness. ❤️

🌙 As the Nights Draw In Earlier… Let’s Talk About Sundowning 🕯️

For many living with dementia, the darker evenings can bring increased confusion, agitation or anxiety. A common phenomenon known as sundowning.

As daylight fades sooner, changes in routine or light levels can be unsettling. But with gentle support, evenings can still feel calm and reassuring.

💙 Here are some ways we help support loved ones during this time:

Keep rooms well-lit as daylight fades

Maintain a regular evening routine

Reduce noise and stimulation later in the day

Offer reassurance, comfort, and companionship

Use familiar music, soft lighting, or calming activities
