We've had a difficult year at Open Minds, you could call it our Annus horribilis - losing funding and most of our team, and trying to pick up the pieces ever since.

In spite of that we are so fortunate to have the few member of our tiny team who are left, working together and supporting each other, and being supported by the amazing people around us.

We are still here, and still providing one to one counselling free and subsidised to adults, and subsidised at £30 a session to children aged 8 and over.

Merry Christmas from everyone at Open Minds and the IMP;ACT Team.

We are having a much deserved break until 3rd January 2026.

Thank you to everyone for their kindness and patience this year while we have adjusted to making most of our team redundant.

It's been a challenge, but we are so grateful to everyone who has donated their time money and energy to helping us get through this.

Thank you to Doncaster Pride and Doncaster Unitarian Church for hosting this evening's Transgender Day of Remembrance.

It was a very moving ceremony - reading out the names and lighting a candle for each of the 367 people known to be transgender who died by violence in the last 12 months across the world.

Our Gender Positive Alliance website has resources and links for people who need to reach out for support.

This Thursday is Transgender Remembrance Day.

The Unitarian Church and Doncaster Pride are holding a memorial from 6pm to remember and honour those Transgender people who have died by violence in the last 12 months.

Thursday 20th November is Transgender day of Remembrance, each year we as a community come together to remember and honor those who we have lost.

We invite and encourage all to join us at The Unitarian Church on Hallgate, from 6pm where we read the names and light a candle for those lost in the transgender community over the last year.

Let us support and work to reduce the number of names on this list each year.

Do**us mode engaged!

We at Open Minds decided to cheer ourselves up with a Christmassy waiting room, only to have tinsel trigger the motion detector at 9.20pm last night, setting off the burglar alarm!

Thankfully there was no burglar (maybe Santa came to check the decorations though!)

The moral of the story is, don't put tinsel in front of the motion detector! 😂

Apologies to anyone on Christchurch Road who was disturbed by the alarm.

Open Minds continues to provide free and subsidised therapy to adults, with therapy for children aged 8 and older priced at £30 a session (still heavily discounted).

Therapy can be offered in person, by video call or telephone by our wonderful counsellors.

We have short waiting times.

Thank you so much to Ray and his fantastic supervisor Flash, for coming to Open Minds today and rescuing us when the back door locking mechanism failed spectacularly!

Several hours of lock replacing and repairing, all under Flash's dedicated eye, and we have a working and secure door again !

We had a really productive time today for World Su***de Prevention Day with Doncaster Public Health.

We delivered workshops on managing stress in busy lives, mindfulness, and ways to help other people when their mental health is deteriorating.

So thankful to share space with people and work to make a difference.
