Active Independence

Active Independence We are an charity run by Disabled people offering support, advocacy and training to Disabled people. We don't think disability is dealt with very well.

We are a disabled person's user led organisation in Doncaster. We offer advice, support and assistance to anyone encountering one of the many barriers facing disabled people, and those who care for them. We're here to change that.

The Details:
Destination: Cleethorpes

Date: July 29th

Pick-up Point: Doncaster (Specific location TBC)

Cost: There will be a small fee to cover transport.

Interested? Please let us know ASAP if you’d like to reserve a spot.

We will confirm the final price and pick-up times once we have a better idea of numbers.

Watch Out! For those closer to Rotherham, keep your eyes peeled! We are also in the early stages of planning another accessible trip, this time with a Rotherham pick-up. The destination for that one is yet to be decided. We’ll announce details for that one separately.

Call for public views to improve disability benefit

Disabled people and those with long-term health conditions are able to share their views on how PIP should be reformed, as the Timms Review opens a Call for Evidence.

• Call for Evidence is open for public to share their experiences and knowledge of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
• Views sought from disabled people of all ages as well as organisations that represent them, carers, clinicians, experts and MPs
• Evidence will inform the Timms Review of PIP, due to report in the autumn, to ensure the benefit is fair and fit for the future

Disabled people and those with long-term health conditions will be able to share their views on how PIP should be reformed, as the Timms Review opens a Call for Evidence today.

So proud of our Creative Thread group

We are thrilled to share this post from Project Linus UK - Rotherham. A huge well done to our talented members at Active Independence who put so much heart and skill into sewing many of these beautiful quilts.

Seeing 57 quilts go to the Stepping Stones Children's Centre in Maltby is just heart-warming. It’s amazing what a community can achieve with a bit of thread and a lot of kindness.

Tilly is getting ready for Spring!

The Tilly Canal Boat is currently undergoing repairs and being spruced up for the season. Once she’s back on the canal, Active Independence will be securing our dates for this year's day trips

Stay tuned for updates—as a reminder, we usually run these trips a few times a year and places fill up almost instantly.

Tilly is fully accessible and a firm favorite with our members.

In the next edition we spoke with Active Independence and how they are helping to empower the community, one step at a time!
