There’s this idea that healing looks obvious. And that it looks pretty.

That it looks like matcha lattes, lululemon tights and yoga at sunrise. It looks like hustling in a busy business and laughing loudly with friends over dinner. It looks like hiking with your partner or sweating at reformer.

And while all of those things may be present in your healing journey... here’s what else is:

- sitting on the floor in your shower rocking gently
- letting yourself lie on the couch instead of cleaning the house
- taking a gentle exhale as your kid throws a tantrum
- moving slower down supermarket isles
- allowing someone to witness you cry
- resting. Just simply resting.

So many of us with histories of chronic stress, anxiety or trauma have a very strained relationship with rest.

At first, it feels unsettling. Uncomfortable. Even dangerous. We feel unproductive, lazy and guilty. When we try to rest we feel restless, our minds are busy and our fingers reach for phones to scroll.

BUT - in time we can teach our bodies that rest is allowed, it is safe and sacred.

And sometimes, that is healing.
