Hippotherapy at Rocking Horse Physiotherapy

Hippotherapy at Rocking Horse Physiotherapy Hippotherapy, or equine facilitated physiotherapy, is a specialised clinical intervention that uses the movements of the horse to achieve functional outcomes.

Working alongside Rossington Hall RDA in Doncaster, and also covering Sheffield and Rotherham. Hippotherapy can be helpful for both children and adults and for a wide variety of conditions such as, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, congenital syndromes and traumatic brain injury. The rhythmical, repetitive movements of the horse help to stimulate trunk control, balance, postural alignment, and motor planning, along with other multisensory effects. Riding skills are not taught in hippotherapy, instead a qualified Hippotherapist will change the position of the client on the horse, for example lying, sitting forward or rear facing, kneeling or even standing with very small children to achieve the desired response.

With Volunteer's Week drawing to a close, I would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers who help out at Hippotherapy at Rocking Horse Physiotherapy and Rossington Hall Riding for the Disabled. Without you we couldn't function. Here are just a few of our amazing volunteers with Jackson, who thinks you are all friendly and make sessions more interesting by playing games with him.

Do you have a few hours to spare on a Saturday, or during the week? We are always looking for new volunteers to join Hippotherapy at Rocking Horse Physiotherapy on Saturdays, or if Saturday is not a good day for you, Rossington Hall Riding for the Disabled also runs Monday to Friday, so we are looking for helpers for other days too. Sometimes our helpers need a break, due to a change in family commitments, starting at university, or health problems, so we are always on the look out for extra helpers. We are a friendly bunch and all training is provided so no previous experience is required. Come and work with our specially trained ponies, join our team of friendly volunteer helpers, and best of all meet our wonderful families who come to use our services. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Another signing in the books for the Phoenix, who have amassed a sizeable group of players for the 2022-2023 campaign - it’s great to see the success and growth of women’s hockey in Coventry!

Eleanor Shaw joins us for her second season in the purple. “El” got stuck right in last year and brings energy to the game as well as her trademark enthusiasm (and packed lunches).

El is sponsored this season by Hippotherapy at Rocking Horse Physiotherapy. Rocking Horse specialise in equine - facilitated physiotherapy (hippotherapy) services in El’s home city of Sheffield. The service is aimed at young children with developmental difficulties, using the movement of the horse to reach towards functional goals.

Thank you Rocking Horse Physiotherapy! 🔥🔥🔥

Hello, I am Rachel Shaw, I qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1989 and I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). For over twenty years I have specialised in the treatment of children with developmental difficulties whilst working within the NHS.

In 2019 I left the NHS to concentrate on my areas of special interest; hippotherapy, rebound therapy and aquatic therapy. I always have an emphasis on having fun and enjoying therapy sessions whilst working towards functional goals.

I completed my hippotherapy training in February 2016 and have had my own horses for over fifteen years. Rocking Horse Physiotherapy was established in 2019.

Hippotherapy sessions are run from Rossington Hall RDA premises, which is an airy, well presented indoor riding school so there are no concerns about the British weather. As RDA premises the supporting staff and horses are highly experienced and knowledgeable. Access to the premises is flat and level and there are ample parking and toilet facilities.

Please contact me if you would like any more information about accessing hippotherapy or suitability for someone you know.
