🎀 Today is National Mammography Day 🎀

At The Oakwood Surgery, we’re proud to support this vital reminder during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Early detection saves lives. Mammograms can identify changes in breast tissue long before symptoms appear and that means treatment can begin earlier, with better outcomes.

✅ If you're aged 50–70 and haven't had a mammogram in the last 3 years, you're eligible for NHS breast screening.
✅ If you're younger but have concerns or a family history, speak to your GP - we're here to listen and guide.

🕗 Update to Our Opening Hours – From October 🕕

In line with national contract changes coming into effect this October, Oakwood Surgery’s doors and phone lines will be open from 8:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday.

This adjustment reflects a formal update to our hours, rather than a change in how we’ve been supporting our patients day to day. As always, our team remains committed to providing safe, timely care - whether through appointments, advice, or signposting to the most appropriate service.

We kindly ask that patients continue to use our services thoughtfully, and where possible, consider online options for routine queries and prescription requests.

⚠️⚠️Tylenol (Paracetamol) and pregnancy. ⚠️⚠️

We’ve seen recent headlines linking Tylenol (paracetamol) with autism. We want to reassure our patients: there is currently no definitive scientific evidence to support this claim.

Paracetamol remains one of the safest and most widely recommended medications for pain and fever relief during pregnancy. Global health authorities continue to support its use when taken as directed.

Let’s keep fear out of the conversation and focus on facts. 💙

Goodbye to the wonderful Kat Lorriman!

After four amazing years with us, our brilliant Physician Associate Kat is spreading her wings and heading off to New Zealand for a new adventure!

Kat has been fantastic. Loved by patients, cherished by the team, and a ray of sunshine in the practice every day she has been with us. Her kindness, care, and calm nature have made such a difference to so many lives, and we honestly can’t imagine the place without her.

We’re so proud of everything she’s achieved and excited for all that’s ahead for her, but we’ll miss her terribly. We desperately hope it’s not goodbye forever, just a see you later.

Go well, Kat. New Zealand is lucky to have you, and we’re lucky to have had you.

📢 Important Update: Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) for Weight Loss

We know many of our patients are asking about Mounjaro – a new weight loss treatment that's recently been making headlines.

🧪 Currently, access to Mounjaro is very limited. It's in Phase One of a national rollout, and unfortunately, GPs are not yet contracted or authorised to prescribe it for weight loss. This means we’re unable to offer it at the surgery at this time.

⚠️ Strict eligibility criteria are in place for this early rollout:

Only patients with a BMI of 40 or above
AND

At least four weight-related health conditions (such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, etc.)

Prescriptions are currently being managed by specialist weight management services, not general practice.

💬 We understand this may be disappointing or confusing, especially if you're actively trying to manage your weight and were hoping for support. Please know that this is only the beginning, and things will change in the near future as rollout phases progress and GP contracts are updated.

✨ Help is on the way, and we’ll keep you updated with the latest information as soon as it's available. In the meantime, if you’d like to talk about your weight, your health, or other support options, our team is here to help.
