Team DBTH would like to say a massive congratulations to Daisy, Lynne and Hannah on their graduation! 👩‍🎓

The trio graduated yesterday from Sheffield Hallam University with their BSc (Hons) in Healthcare Science - an incredible achievement after years of dedication. They began their careers at DBTH as Cardiorespiratory Assistants, progressed through their Level 2 and 4 qualifications, and now, with their degrees, are fully fledged physiologists.

Well done, ladies - your commitment to your own personal development and to providing excellent care for our patients is truly inspiring! 🌟

Last month, Emergency Department (ED) colleagues across Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) were treated to a visit from the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) charity.

The visits took place in mid-October as part of RRT’s nationwide campaign to recognise and thank emergency and urgent care teams for their service to local communities.

RRT is a volunteer-led charity made up of members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church. The group provides practical and emotional support to emergency services, charities, and communities in need - from serving food and drinks during major incidents to helping those affected by natural disasters. Over the past few years, they’ve supported colleagues at DBTH through similar initiatives, offering refreshments and encouragement during particularly busy or challenging periods.

As part of their latest initiative, A&E Appreciation Week, RRT volunteers visited departments to share coffee, cake, and conversation. Over the course of the week, a number of colleagues took a brief moment to meet the volunteers, and take a well-earned break from their busy shifts. The event was warmly received by colleagues across the department, helping to lift spirits and shine a light on the compassion and resilience shown every day by those working in emergency care.

Reflecting on the event, Chris Ditch, Divisional General Manager for Urgent and Emergency Care, said: “We’re so grateful to the Rapid Relief Team for their kindness and generosity towards our colleagues.

"Working in such a fast-paced, high-pressure environment isn’t easy, but our teams always go above and beyond for our patients. Having that effort recognised in this way has been absolutely fantastic and provided a much-needed morale boost.”

Rod Paterson, Local Team Leader for RRT, echoed Chris’s sentiments: “The opportunity to thank the incredible teams in person has been a true honour for our volunteers. The compassion, strength, and professionalism they show every day, often under immense pressure, is nothing short of remarkable.

"A&E Appreciation Week is about showing that their hard work matters - that it’s seen, valued and celebrated. We believe this gratitude should be recognised every year across the country, which is why we’re calling for formal recognition of this week as a permanent fixture in the national calendar.”

It’s been a busy start to the colder months across DBTH, with teams seeing around 36,000 patients between September and early November – around 4% more than the same period last year.

Health professionals at the Trust are asking local communities to use services wisely this winter – only attending the Emergency Department when it’s appropriate to do so. If you’re unsure where to go, NHS 111 is available online and by phone for advice and guidance on the best service for your needs.

Last week we celebrated the outstanding achievements of our colleagues at the 2025 Star Awards! 🌟

Hosted by BBC Radio Yorkshire’s Dixie, the annual event brought together teams and individuals from across Bassetlaw Hospital, Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Montagu Hospital for an evening of celebration, recognising those who go above and beyond every day to deliver exceptional care, compassion, and commitment to patients and one another.

This year’s winners reflected the true breadth and depth of Team DBTH – colleagues from a wide range of services, both clinical and corporate. Together, they represent every part of the organisation, from those who directly deliver high-quality care to those who support and enable it. Each award celebrated the exceptional people whose dedication ensures our hospitals continue to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care.

Among the evening’s highlights, the Chair’s Award was presented to The Stroke Team, commended for their innovation and excellence, including the introduction of seven-day CT perfusion imaging, pioneering video triage with paramedics, and achieving some of the best times in the country for thrombectomy transfers.

Suzy Brain England OBE, Chair of the Board, said the event was a fitting celebration of the talent and dedication across the organisation: “The Star Awards are always one of the highlights of our year, and this one was particularly special for me as my final ceremony as Chair. Every nomination and every story shared on the night reflects the dedication, compassion and teamwork that make DBTH such an extraordinary place.

"I am so proud of our colleagues and the difference they make for patients every single day.”

Speaking at the event, Zoe Lintin, Chief People Officer at the Trust, said: “The Star Awards celebrate the people who make this organisation what it is. Every day, our colleagues live The DBTH Way – caring for others, supporting their teams, and always striving to make things better. It’s a chance to say thank you and recognise the heart and pride that shine through across our hospitals.”

The awards were delivered in association with ESC Global, a Doncaster-based water treatment company, who generously sponsored the event. Additional sponsorship was provided by Darwin Group, Fleet Solutions, Holt Doctors, Assut Europe, IHP Vinci and Doncaster College.

Another heart-warming message for our amazing maternity team! 🌟

"Our little boy Flynn made his arrival on the 17th of January this year after a rather sudden decision to induce after our last scan. He had been struggling to grow and it was in his best interest to get him here as soon as possible even if that was nearly a month earlier than I had expected him to be here.

"Alisha, the community midwife I had, made sure to take her time at our last appointment - talking through my fear of such a quick change of plans, explaining the ways of induction, the possibilities of what could happen, the possibility of a c section and then talking through my fears of such a large potentially emergency surgery.

"We got called in for induction on the 14th and Charlotte, the midwife we saw when we arrived and helped get us settled, was a lovely first person to have contact with - so friendly and checking on me after I explained I was nervous to be in the hospital by myself for an unknown amount of time while we waited. And then there’s Janine, a literal angel the whole time, started my induction and managed to get me a private room after being sent back down from the labour ward and helped calm me back down from the disappointment assessed me again with Dee and sent me up to the next free labour room with Dee to break my waters.

"The team on the labour ward came in to talk about my choices and took them on board and did some and we compromised on some things for the safety of being able to keep an eye on my little boy - I truly felt listened to and included in all decisions. On the labour ward, what a lovely surprise for me than to learn that Lindsay was to be my midwife, which means she delivered both my beautiful babies into this world having previously delivered my little girl in 2022! What a wonderful coincidence. Again, Lindsay proved herself to be an amazing midwife, talking me through a panic attack midway through. Sapphire the student midwife was amazing as well - they both handled everything so perfectly.

" I was very happy with my care and how well they managed to prepare for Flynn - one minute I was 7cm and then I told them he was on his way and, sure thing, he was on his way already. The speed Lindsay managed to prepare what she needed and get gloves on was unmatched.

"A special thanks for Julie who was my community midwife in my first pregnancy and saw my name and made time to come and see me after giving birth this time round - such a lovely surprise to see a familiar face again and so lovely to know I was remembered.

"Since then, the infant feeding team who we have seen pretty regularly - Claire especially - has been such a rock for me. She has seen me crying a fair few times and always manages to help me see the positives.

"I honestly can’t thank everyone enough who was a part of my care during my pregnancy and postpartum 💖"

From antenatal to postnatal, our maternity team truly do give the best care to new parents 🥹 well done all!

Happy Monday, everyone! We want to share another shining example of Team DBTH maternity colleagues showing kindness, skill and compassion:

"It’s been a while since my twins, Marley and Rory were born but I want to say a huge thank you to everyone at Doncaster Women’s and Children’s hospital for the care we received throughout and after my my pregnancy.

"I always wanted to try for a natural birth so I opted for an induction which lasted a couple of days, however I ended up having an emergency C section. It was a very overwhelming experience but the team who looked after me were absolutely amazing, so professional and calming. Miss Morgan and her team are a credit to the hospital.

"A special thank you to Sarah Leck and Sarah Levers, who were my midwives whilst I was in the central delivery suite, they made mine and my husbands stay a lot more than comfortable. Alisha, who was my midwife whilst being induced, and Jayne Knowles who was my community midwife, thank you all for everything.

"At 6 weeks old, after a couple of visits to the children’s hospital, Marley was diagnosed with Pyloric Stenosis. The level of care we received from Dr Gideon and the team was outstanding at the Children’s Observation Unit and Children’s Ward. From the swift tests and ultrasounds, to being blue lighted to Sheffield Children's Hospital. We are truly grateful.

"Our boys are nearly 8 months old and are absolutely thriving!"

Thank you to our fantastic colleagues for always going the extra mile for patients and families ❤️
