A little look ahead…

As we head into the New Year, we just wanted to share that there are some really exciting things coming to Bawtry Eye Academy in 2026.

We’re always reinvesting back into the practice — updating equipment, bringing in new technology, and making sure the care we offer is as up to date and thorough as it can be. It’s something we genuinely care about, because your eye health matters to us.

We’ll be sharing more over the coming months, so keep an eye on our social pages for updates (no pun intended 😉)

As we step into a new year, we just want to say thank you.

Thank you to each and every one of you for trusting us with your eye care throughout 2025. It really does mean the world to us, and we’re so grateful to be part of your journey.

Although we’re closed today so our team can enjoy a little time with their families, we’ll be back tomorrow, ready to welcome you as we head into 2026 together.

Myth: Ordering glasses online is the same as getting them from an optician

Reality: It’s not quite that simple 👓

While ordering glasses online can seem quick and convenient, there are a few important things that are easy to miss:

🔹 Measurements matter
Things like pupillary distance, frame fit, and how lenses sit in front of your eyes all affect how well you see — and they’re very hard to get right without professional measuring.

🔹 One prescription doesn’t fit every frame
Your prescription needs to be adapted to the frame you choose. Online systems can’t always account for this properly, which can lead to discomfort, headaches, or blurred vision.

🔹 Comfort is about more than looks
A frame might look great on screen, but weight, balance, and fit all play a big role in how glasses feel after hours of wear.

🔹 Your eyes change
An in-practice eye test checks not just your prescription, but your overall eye health too — something online ordering simply can’t do.

That’s why coming into the practice makes such a difference.
You’re not just choosing glasses — you’re getting personalised advice, accurate measurements, and peace of mind that everything is right for your eyes.

Oh no… not 'Lucifer'

What a lot of people might not realise, is that Sarah fosters guinea pigs, so her house is often full of them 🐹

They come to her for a bit of love and care before heading off to their forever homes.

This little chap is one of her current fosters… and when he arrived, he was already named Lucifer.

The problem is — he’s honestly far too sweet, gentle and lovely for a name like that

So, if you’ve got a bit of time to potter and scroll in that quiet space between Christmas and New Year…

A day in the life of a contact lens at Christmas…

Morning.
Fresh. Clean. Full of festive optimism.

By 10am, I’m up against central heating, winter air,
and a mascara wand that’s come far too close for comfort.

Lunchtime.
Blinking intensifies.
Am briefly blamed for something that is definitely just tired eyes.

Afternoon.
Still doing my job.
Eye drops make a brief — and very welcome — appearance.

Evening.
I breathe a small sigh of relief when I realise there’s no Christmas partying tonight.
I don’t think I could handle any more glitter.

Alas… there is a festive box set to contend with.
One episode becomes three.
Let’s just hope they don’t fall asleep and forget about me again.

And yet…
Tomorrow, I will return.
Cleaned properly. Stored correctly. Ready to go again.

Because I am a contact lens.
And Christmas is… a lot.

Open oven → glasses turn into a Victorian ghost filter.
Just embrace the vibe. 👻🎄

2️⃣ The Apron Temptation
We KNOW your novelty Christmas apron or jumper is right there…
but please resist wiping your glasses on it.
Scratchy lenses are not on anyone’s wish list. 😅

3️⃣ Contact Lens Wearers, we see you blinking
If your eyes feel drier than usual, you're not imagining it —
the heating's blasting, scented candles are everywhere, and festive makeup has more sparkle than Santa’s sleigh.

4️⃣ Sunglasses in Winter? Absolutely.
The low sun is aggressive…
AND they double as a disguise for last-minute shopping dashes when you don’t want to be recognised. 😎🎁
