πŸ’Š Did you know?🩹

Your local pharmacy can help with common health problems β€” without a GP appointment!

Pharmacists can:
βœ… Give advice on coughs, colds, sore throats, and ear infections
βœ… Answer questions about medicines and side effects
βœ… Refer you to a GP if needed

Through Pharmacy First, many pharmacies can also provide prescription medicine for conditions like earache, sore throat, sinusitis, UTIs, shingles, impetigo, and infected insect bites (age rules apply).πŸ₯πŸ’™

πŸ“’ Important Update: Home Blood Pressure Monitors

Due to many monitors not being returned, our supply has become extremely limited. Because of this, we are no longer able to loan monitors from the surgery on a regular basis.

Instead, we now recommend that patients purchase their own home blood pressure monitor if they are able to. πŸ›’ Basic models are widely available online and from most pharmacies and retailers, starting from around Β£20.

βœ… We recommend Omron monitors as they are reliable and easy to use.

Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us care for our community. πŸ’™

We’ve had a high number of enquiries about the recent MenB (meningitis) cases in Kent. πŸ’¬

Public health teams, including the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), are managing this. The situation is limited to a specific group (people who attended Club Chemistry on 5–7 March), and anyone who needs antibiotics has already been contacted.

The MenB vaccine is not routinely available on the NHS for adults outside specific eligibility groups. We are therefore unable to offer MenB vaccination at the surgery in relation to this situation. The vaccine is available privately through pharmacies like Superdrug and Boots, etc.

🌑️ Urgent symptoms to be aware of include:
Fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, vomiting, sensitivity to light, confusion, or a rash that does not fade when pressed.

☎️ Call 999 for an ambulance or go to your nearest A&E immediately if you think you or someone you look after could have meningitis.

☎️ Call NHS 111 for advice if you're not sure if it's anything serious.

We kindly ask patients not to contact the surgery regarding MenB unless they have been specifically advised to do so. Thank you for helping us keep our lines open for patients who need urgent care. πŸ’™

πŸ§ͺ Specimen Drop-Off Reminder

We kindly remind all patients that any specimens being dropped off at the surgery must be received by 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.

This allows enough time for our team to process them and prepare them for collection by the laboratory.

Please note that specimens received after 4:00pm may not be sent to the lab and may need to be disposed of and repeated, which could delay your results.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. πŸ™

πŸ’› Endometriosis Action Month πŸ’›

March is Endometriosis Action Month. Endometriosis affects around 1 in 10 women in the UK.

It occurs when cells similar to the lining of the womb are found elsewhere in the body, often in the pelvis. These cells respond to hormones during the menstrual cycle, which can cause inflammation, pain and scar tissue.

Symptoms vary but may include pelvic pain, very painful periods, heavy bleeding, pain during or after s*x, fatigue, and difficulty getting pregnant. With treatment, many of these issues can be addressed and the symptoms of endometriosis made more manageable.

If you are experiencing persistent symptoms that are affecting your daily life, please contact the surgery to discuss them with a GP. πŸ’›

🚭 National No Smoking Day 🚭

Today is National No Smoking Day – an annual UK health awareness day dedicated to inspiring and supporting people to quit smoking for good.

Quitting smoking is one of the best decisions you can make for your health and the benefits start almost immediately:

🌿Improved breathing – Your lungs begin to heal, making it easier to breathe.
🌿Increased energy – Better oxygen levels improve circulation and boost energy.
🌿Lower risk of disease – Reduces your chances of heart disease, stroke and lung cancer.
🌿Extra savings – Smoking can cost thousands each year β€” imagine what you could do with that money instead!

🚫 Missed Appointments Matter 🚫

In February, we had 33 missed appointments, adding up to 660 minutes of wasted clinical time.

If you can't attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible, even if it's only a few hours beforehand. This allows us to offer the slot to another patient who may be waiting.

By cancelling appointments you no longer need, you're helping us use NHS time and resources more effectively. Thank you for your support πŸ’™

🌻 International Women's Day – Sunday 8 March 🌻

This Sunday, we proudly celebrate International Women's Day. It's a time to recognise the achievements, strength and resilience of women in our community and around the world.

At our surgery, we are grateful for the incredible women who make up our team and the patients and families we care for every day. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

Let's continue to support, uplift and empower one another β€” not just on Sunday 8 March, but every day of the year. πŸ’œ
