Not just a tape measure — a time capsule.
In the 1940s, American troops were stationed in Friarmayne and Broadmayne.
A commanding officer stayed in a nearby farmhouse near Dorchester incognito, As thanks for the kindness shown to him, he sent this tape measure over from the U.S. to the ladies of the farmhouse.
Today it stands as a charming reminder of friendship, community, and wartime Dorset history.
A true slice of history.
