I see my journey as one of a Wild Pilgrim, not just headed to a particular sacred place or a fixed destination. More of a serpentine, wild edged wander, a way to live, a way to explore spaces, make deeper connections with the smallest aspects of an ecosystem or with the broadest sweeping landscapes.
You see, the wild pilgrim state is to feel part of the living ecosystem not separate from it. To follow wild trods, create new ones, to pause with emerging flowers at Spring time, to honour the passing of a dead bird on the side of the road, to muse with trees....To feel the rush of the wind before it reaches the skin.
Often I will feel a calling to visit a particular place and that could involve quite an effort, other times I just need to set out and see where I end up. Intuitively navigating, perhaps taking a 'wrong' turn and feeling a bit 'lost' or perplexed as to why I headed down a certain path or turning off the road.
If we are to trust in the mystery, the great unfolding, the shifts in the Wyrd and the transformative potential of our souls, we need to navigate a little with our 'witchdar' - give a little room to our innate knowing, our wild wonderful wisdom.
I feel this the most when I am on the land, in deep dialogue with where we originate from.
As John O'Donohue put it in his book 'Beauty: The Invisible Embrace' -
"The earth is our origin and destination. The ancient rhythms of the earth have insinuated themselves into the rhythms of the human heart".
I have added a new short free post on Substack on my wild pilgrim musings which ultimately will form the book I am writing. Do follow me over there if you haven't already and comment on the post if you can, or hit the like button. It all helps and I really appreciate it!
Wild blessings!
