A tragic case recently highlighted the devastating consequences of rabies after a UK holidaymaker died months after a minor scratch from a dog while on holiday in Morocco.

Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but it is preventable with vaccination and prompt medical treatment after exposure. In this case, the scratch initially seemed minor and medical advice was not sought at the time.
