Our Story

Dru Yoga Dorset loves to welcome people of all ages, fitness levels, and abilities, our oldest member is 93! We are not just a yoga class, we meet inside and outside the sessions, as it is our mission to support our students to form friendships and nurturing connections with each other. As well as weekly classes we run day long workshops and weekly retreats. With its foundations set firmly in ancient yogic tradition and its emphasis on soft, flowing movements, Dru Yoga can help increase energy levels, ease back pain, and wash away stress. It is a style of yoga that can be quickly dipped into or learnt in more depth over a lifetime. It is now taught in many different countries, and as such has helped us become one of the largest yoga organisations in the world. As hundreds of our students are finding every day, at its most simple, Dru Yoga helps relieve the pressures of modern living.

Dru yoga emphasises meeting and Being with yourself as you are in the moment, which makes it perfect for Beginners.

There is a soft, gentle approach to the physical movements, which are performed slowly and mindfully to music. Dru Yoga is often called ‘Yoga of the Heart’ because a major emphasis is activating Heart Power. The Heart centre (Anahata) is known as the centre of Transformation. Dru takes its name from the Sanskrit Dhruva, meaning still and unchanging. Dhruva is the name given to the North Star, which remains a fixed point in the sky, whilst all others appear to move around it. When practising Dru yoga, we direct our awareness to that place inside ourselves, called the Dhruvakasha, or Dru point, which is still and spacious.

This still point is reached through the combination of movement and breath with visualisation and affirmation.
