Jo Howie Equine Therapy carries out a full body assessment of any soreness, spasms, skeletal and muscular asymmetry, injuries & issues; a gait assessment; and assessments of any other areas of concern, such as tack, dental, nutrition. Jo Howie Equine Therapy then offers equine bodywork, sports massage, physio., & rehabilitation (including polework, athletic taping, JJ bracelets). Jo Howie Equine Therapy can help with lameness, back issues, accident & sports injuries, ligament/tendon/joint/muscle soreness, post op. & injury rehab., rehab. & exercise programmes, relief for neurological conditions (stringhalt, shivers, spasms, etc.), strength & conditioning, performance improvement & more! Various equine applied therapies (including massage, laser, shock wave therapy, acupressure), equine health, nutrition, saddlery, farriery, youngstock, breeding, anatomy & physiology, behaviour, biomechanics, welfare & sports medicine. Happy hump day - It’s officially 6 more Wednesdays until Spring 🥳🌸

🤎 The fields are still mud-bound.
🧥 Rugs are still questioned each day.
👹 Horses still look feral.

BUT there are small signs of Spring
☀️ The light is slowly stretching out in the evenings.
🌱 Shoots of new grass are appearing.
🆘 We can slowly shift out of full-survival mode.

Soft tissue work, massage & physio may not be able to fix arthritis but it can definitely treat the soreness & tightness in the body from compensating for the arthritis 🦴 Horses are just like people - when one leg is sore we compensate by putting more weight on the other leg, don’t we? Our muscles tighten & work harder to put less pressure on the sore area ❤️‍🩹 Horses’ bodies are very clever at protecting themselves but they still need a little help sometimes 💗

How quickly do you notice changes in your horse? 🤔 I saw a horse last night whose owner knew there was something different as soon as they got on, then tried 3 strides of trot & immediately got off and contacted me 🆘 📲 It turned out the mare’s hips & pelvis were unbalanced & muscles strained ❤️‍🩹 But due to the owner’s early catch the mare hadn’t started with compensatory issues or soreness and we could sort her out straight away 💪
If you notice subtle changes early you can prevent small issues from becoming bigger problems. This is how longevity with our horses is built 💗
Regular check-ups helps check for small issues before your horse makes you listen 👀

LOVED seeing this post yesterday 🥳 It’s been a long journey for this mare & owner - from an awful accident 🏥, Kissing Spine diagnosis & treatment ❤️‍🩹, physio & laser ❤️, exercise & rehab 💪 and finally back to riding 🏇!!! This case truly shows what a good team can achieve, paired with dedication & love from a good owner 🥰 I look forward to seeing the continued journey for this lovely duo!
