Today marks the 10th anniversary of the passing of Derek Farrier.

Derek succeeded his father, Jack Farrier and served the local community of Dover for over 50 years. He was a stalwart funeral director and an astute businessman.

W. J. Farrier & Son Ltd continues as one of Kent’s largest independent family owned funeral directors and much of this success is down to Derek’s hard work and dedication.

It remains privately owned by the Farrier family and continues to be run by Derek’s children, James, Julie and Sarah as well as their mum, Lynda.

Derek John Farrier

‘A man of integrity, a man of respect, a man to be respected.’

It's important to remember there’s no ‘right’ way to grieve and we each react in our own way. 💜

You might find that even though time has passed, you feel the emotions as strongly as when the person first died.

COVID-19 Update

We have performed the necessary risk assessments with regards to COVID-19 and have policies and procedures in place to keep our staff, our clients and the general public safe.

We request that only two people (from the same household or support bubble) visit our offices at any one time.

We are following the social distancing measures in accordance with the governments guidelines.

We request that all visitors wear a face covering when inside our premises.

Death registration continues to be carried out over the telephone by the registrars.

Our limousines have been fitted with specialist hygiene screens that safely separate the driver from the passengers.

We are allowing a maximum of 6 passengers in our limousines and request that all passengers wear a face covering.

A maximum number of 30 people can attend a funeral in the UK, however certain service locations may have reduced this number due to the size of the church or chapel.

A face covering must be worn when inside the service location (crematorium chapel, church etc.)

We are continuing to offer a free webcast service (crematoriums only) for those who are unable to attend the funeral.

For more information please contact us on one of the following numbers:

Update.

As we slowly return to some form of normality, we'd like to reassure everyone that we are continuing to make all the necessary steps to keep our staff, our clients and the general public safe whilst we carry out the funerals entrusted to us.

There have been many changes over the last few months and this has led to several restrictions being enforced with regards to the services that we offer.

There are still restrictions in place but we are making every effort possible to ensure that our funerals are carried out to the same high standard.

Currently the maximum number of attendees allowed at a funeral is 15 people but this is dependent on the service location and may be slightly lower.

Churches still remain closed to funeral services at this time.

Our limousines will be available again as of Monday 15th June.

We have installed specialist hygiene screens to safely separate the driver from the passengers, reducing any potential risk.

The limousines will be fully sanitised after each use.

We are continuing to make the funeral arrangements over the telephone where possible but if we do need to meet with our clients in person, we follow the strict social distancing measures.

On a personal note, we would like to express our appreciation to all the families that we have looked after during this pandemic for their understanding and cooperation. Losing a loved one is hard enough, but doing so with so many restrictions in place has heightened the emotions involved.

As members of SAIF (the society of allied and independent funeral directors) we are able to offer a bereavement care line to anyone who has lost a loved one and may be in need of a bit of support.

'SAIF Care' can be contacted on 0800 917 7224 and their lines are open 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday.

Their friendly, supportive staff are available to offer information, advice or just a listening ear.

Stay safe
