🌟 Celebrating Our Receptionists 🌟

Our receptionists are more than just the first point of contact; they are essential to the smooth running of our services. Here’s what they do:

First Point of Contact: Greeting patients with professionalism, ensuring a welcoming experience.

Patient Coordination: Our receptionists rely heavily on the information given to them. This is vital in ensuring that each patient receives the correct service and care.

Handling of Prescription Queries: Please remember, they are messengers with no control over the prescriptions themselves.

Addressing Verbal Abuse: Unfortunately, they still encounter verbal abuse. We understand that health concerns can lead to heightened emotions. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards abuse of NHS staff.

We ask for your patience and kindness when interacting with our reception team. They are crucial in connecting you with the right care and support. 💙

Heading abroad soon? Make sure you're protected with the right travel vaccinations

Here’s what you need to know before you go:

🗓️ Plan ahead

We recommend arranging your travel vaccinations at least 8 weeks before your departure to ensure you're fully protected.

📄 Complete your travel health form

Start by submitting a travel risk assessment form. This allows our Travel Nurses to review your health needs. Once submitted, our Travel Administrator will contact you via email with tailored advice on any recommended vaccinations.

You can complete the form on our website or directly via this link:

https://www.draytonmedical.nhs.uk/clinics-and-services/travel-health/

🏥 Where to get your vaccines

After reviewing your form, we’ll let you know whether your recommended vaccines are available through the NHS at our surgery, or if you’ll need to visit a private clinic or pharmacy.

The following vaccines are free on the NHS:

Tetanus, diphtheria polio, typhoid, hepatitis A, hepatitis A and B if combined, MMR, cholera

Please note: Travel vaccine appointments are only available at Drayton & Horsford & St Faiths Surgeries.

🏪 Travelling soon?

If your trip is within the next 4 weeks, we advise booking with a private travel clinic or pharmacy to avoid delays and ensure timely protection.

Diabetic eye screening is an important part of diabetes care and helps protect your sight. Diabetes can damage the small blood vessels in the eyes, leading to a condition called diabetic retinopathy, which can cause vision loss if not detected early. Screening checks for early signs before you notice any changes, meaning treatment can start sooner and help prevent serious damage.

If you have diabetes and are aged 12 or over, you will usually be invited for screening every 1–2 years. The test is quick and involves taking photographs of the back of your eyes to check for any changes.

Attending your screening appointment can:
• Detect problems early before symptoms develop 👁️✨
• Help prevent or reduce sight loss 💙🩺
• Support long-term eye health as part of your diabetes care 🌿📊

Even if your vision feels fine, it’s important to attend when invited. 💙✨

Living with Diabetes? Your NHS Annual Review is Essential

If you’re living with diabetes, your NHS annual review is a vital part of managing your health. This comprehensive check-up helps identify any early signs of complications and ensures your treatment plan is working effectively.

What’s included in your review:
HCA Review:

Blood tests (including HbA1c) to assess your average blood sugar levels over the past 2–3 months
Blood pressure monitoring to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke
Foot checks to detect early signs of ulcers, infections, or nerve damage
Weight and BMI measurements to support healthy weight management
Cholesterol and urine tests to monitor heart and kidney health
Lifestyle and medication review to discuss your diet, physical activity, and current treatment

These checks are quick, tailored to your needs, and play a key role in keeping you well. They also give you the chance to ask questions and make informed decisions about your care.

📩 Once your results are in, our team of Nurses and NP will review them thoroughly. If any follow-up is needed, a diabetes nurse will notify reception, and we’ll contact you to arrange an appointment, your results can be found on the NHS app.

We’ll be in touch when your annual review is due, so there’s no need to worry about remembering — we’ve got it covered.

Is your child starting school soon?

Make sure they’re protected with the 4-in-1 pre-school booster vaccine — a key part of the NHS childhood immunisation schedule.

This booster helps protect against four serious illnesses:

Diphtheria
Tetanus
Whooping cough (pertussis)
Polio

📅 It’s typically given at 3 years and 4 months of age, just before children start school.

If your child has missed this vaccine, it’s not too late — it can still be given up to the age of 10. Contact us to book an appointment.
