Our Christmas Memorial Service will take place 2 weeks from today.
This year, we are raising money for SCOPE, a charity that reached out to our new business leader when his eldest son was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and SCOPE works to create greater opportunities for disabled people.

After the service, there will be free refreshments in our Hospitality Suite, along with the chance to donate and take part in a raffle featuring some fantastic prizes kindly donated -

Sewerby Hall and Gardens family day out

Lynn’s knitted Christmas characters, which always draws lots of attention

Last year’s service, led by Graeme Holbrook, was truly special, and he did a wonderful job. This year, we are delighted to have Helen Davies leading the service. Each year, a different celebrant will take the role to offer a fresh perspective, and we are fortunate to have many excellent celebrants who support our funeral services.

The service starts at 11 o'clock on Saturday, 13th December, with refreshments served after in our Hospitality Suite to help support SCOPE.
Our Christmas tree will be available for you to place a star in memory of loved ones in our Book of Remembrance room.

Anyone visiting the crematorium today, please be aware that our grounds are still covered in snow. Parking is limited, so if you are able to car share, it would be greatly appreciated. Please park considerately in the main car park to help maximise the available space.

When entering the grounds, please note that the entire left-hand side is our “laying to rest” lawn area — no parking is permitted there.

You’re warmly invited to join us for our Christmas Memorial Service (Civil Ceremony), led by Helen Davies, on Saturday 13th December at 11am.

This special gathering is a time to come together, remember our loved ones, and find comfort in the warmth of community during the festive season.

During the service, there will be a moment of reflection featuring photos of our loved ones — a gentle and heartfelt way to honour their memory. If you’d like your loved one to be included, please send us one photo per loved ones to share. Send your photo by 8th December to eastriding.crematorium@thecmg.co.uk or call into the office.

You’ll also have the opportunity to write and place a star on our Remembrance Tree located in our Book of Remembrance room, creating a beautiful space to reflect and remember.

After the service, please stay for refreshments and a chance to chat and share memories.
We’ll also be raising funds for Scope, a charity close to our new leader’s heart which creates a equal future for disabled people.

More Than Just a Space: The Heart of the Farewell.

Today, I want to share my recent visit to the beautiful East Riding Crematorium in Driffield. As your celebrant, it’s vital I know every aspect of the space, but my visit today was truly special.

A huge thank you to Kate and Charlotte! Their kindness and professionalism were outstanding. It gives me great confidence knowing the families I work with will be supported by such empathetic staff during a difficult time.

What makes this space special?

🌿 Serene Setting: The bright chapel, stunning stained glass, and beautiful landscaped Gardens of Remembrance offer such a peaceful setting for reflection.

🕊️ Memorial Options: I learned about their vast range of on-site Memorials (Ribbon Gardens, Private Gardens, The Book of Remembrance, and more). This means I can now offer even more thoughtful advice to families seeking a final resting place, or who wish to hold a specific ceremony for the placement of ashes.

My commitment is to ensure the ceremony is personal, seamless, and dignified—and working with venues and staff like this makes that possible.
