There has been emerging research into young people, social media and mental wellbeing recently and what is becoming really clear is that the picture is far more complicated than simply blaming “screen time”.

One major UK study followed 25,000 teenagers over three school years and found no evidence that heavier social media use or more gaming directly increased symptoms of anxiety or depression. At the same time, other recent research has linked more than three hours of social media use per day with a greater likelihood of anxiety and depression symptoms in teenagers, with sleep disruption thought to be a key factor.

That tells us something important - This isn’t a simple “screens are bad” conversation.

Maybe the real question isn’t just how long young people are online but more what they are experiencing while they’re there, and what they’re already carrying before they even log on.

Sometimes the phone may be part of the problem but sometimes it is also the comfort, the distraction, the coping mechanism, or the escape.

This is the exact reason why understanding youth mental health matters so much.

What do you think - are we focusing too much on the screen, and not enough on what might be sitting underneath it?

How are the Easter holidays going? 🐣

We would love to say things are calm and professional over here at FabTraining but clearly HR approved bunny ears and a full Easter photoshoot for the FAB dogs (with a little help from AI) are the order of the day instead 🐰🌼

No training update.
No serious business message.
Just two absolute icons checking in to ask:

How many Easter eggs is too many? 👀🍫

(apparently they are asking for a friend)

This came up again recently and it is one of those things people often think but don’t always say out loud.

A lot of people don’t hesitate in an emergency because they don’t care. They hesitate because they are scared of doing the wrong thing, making it worse, or being blamed afterwards.

And that’s a problem because when someone collapses, chokes, or goes into cardiac arrest, doing nothing can be the bigger risk.

The fear is real but the question is, have we created a culture where people are more afraid of being judged than they are confident to help?

So be honest - if someone collapsed in front of you tomorrow what would genuinely worry you most?

What’s that then?

A specialist bolt on module designed for people working in remote, rural or woodland environments where help may take longer to arrive. This came up in a recent Understanding Mental Health in the Workplace training session and really got us talking.

We were discussing “banter” in the workplace, something that can build great team relationships, but can also land very differently depending on who is on the receiving end.

What stood out was this:

Nearly 1 in 5 people say they’ve been bullied at work ..... sometimes the people causing it don’t even realise.

It is not always obvious.
It is not always intentional.
But that doe not mean it doesn't have an impact.

Sometimes it is the small things that build over time.

So it got us thinking, where do you think the line is between banter and something more?

🎂 Bruce said he wanted a quiet birthday this year ......

So naturally, we have signed him up to crawl through mud instead 😅

It’s going to be messy.

But it’s all for a cause that means a lot to us 💜

If you fancy supporting (or just want a front row seat to the chaos) ......

This is a clip from one of our training sessions teaching DRABC and it is still a solid foundation.

But since this was filmed, the 2025 Resuscitation Council UK guidelines have introduced an important update:

👉 DRABCDE

stands for catastrophic bleeding because in some situations, controlling severe bleeding must come before anything else.

D stands for disability - checking level of response, signs of brain injury or changes in consciousness.

E is for Exposure - looking for hidden injuries while keeping the person safe and warm.

It is a powerful reminder that first aid is not static.
It evolves. It improves. And it saves more lives because of it.

💜 This is why regular refresher training matters - not just to remember what to do, but to make sure you are doing the right thing.

When was your last update?

Have you heard of the DRABCDE update before?

Over the past few weeks, we have been challenging the myths that still exist in grassroots rugby but this campaign was never just about myth-busting.

It was about something bigger.

Because when a player stays down, the reality is simple - someone in your club needs to know what to do.

That is exactly why we developed our Emergency First Aid at Work course with a Rugby & Sporting Injury Module.

🏉 Built specifically for grassroots rugby.
🏉 Designed for real matchday situations.
🏉 Delivered by people who understand the game.

We are already speaking to clubs who want to raise their standards after following this campaign. If your club is thinking the same, now is the time to have that conversation.

Book a short call with us or drop us a message and we will talk you through what’s right for your club.
