Today, we had the distinct honour of conducting a funeral service for a remarkable local gentleman who reached the incredible milestone of 100 years. 🕊️

It is always a privilege to help a family celebrate such a long and storied life. The service at The Vale Crematorium was made even more special by the stunning floral arrangement provided by Kilbury Flowers in Worcester.

A century of life is a rare and beautiful thing to commemorate. 🤍

Did you know that if you text SHOUT to 85258 at a time when you may be feeling depressed or suicidal, a crisis worker will text you back immediately and will continue to text with you.
Many people don't like talking over the phone and would feel more comfortable texting.
This is a free service for anyone - if you would like to join us in raising awareness, please share this post.

DID YOU KNOW…
In many cultures including our own coffins or caskets traditionally enter, and leave the chapel, church, or venue feet first. This practice has symbolic and traditional significance:

Journey to the Afterlife: It represents the deceased moving forward from this world to the next.
Protection: Some superstitions suggest it prevents the spirit from looking back and beckoning living family members to follow.
Respect: In churches, it’s a sign of respect to the altar, with the feet leading the way towards the sacred space.
Natural Movement: It mirrors the natural way a person walks in life — now carried feet first to their final resting place.
Tradition: Many cultures believe it ensures the soul leaves the house properly.
Exception: When a clergy member’s coffin is carried into a church, it is head first, allowing them to face their congregation. This symbolises their lifelong dedication to God and their role as a shepherd, honoring their priestly service even in death.
This small yet meaningful tradition reflects centuries of care, respect, and symbolism in farewell rituals.

Walking with grief…

Side by side we walked,
together grief and I.
Carrying my lifes remains
under a darkened sky.

I asked when it would leave.
If the sun would shine again.
I asked if it would heal,
if it could stop the pain.

Grief took its time to speak.
I often wondered why.
Many times we sat together
and all i did was cry.

Grief never ever left me.
and then one day it said.
"I am going nowhere,
so learn to live with me instead."

I then befriended grief.
It then began to talk.
I looked forward to its stories,
when side by side we'd walk.

Together we shared memories
that i had locked away.
Grief is now a part of me,
and i accept it's here to stay.
