Peroneal Tendon Subluxation

🔎 What is it?

A dynamic instability where the peroneal tendons (longus & brevis) slip over the lateral malleolus, producing a characteristic “snapping” sensation during ankle motion.

🧠 Anatomy refresher:

* Peroneus longus & brevis run behind the fibular groove secured by the superior peroneal retinaculum (SPR).
* When the SPR is lax or torn, the tendons sublux or dislocate anteriorly over the fibula during eversion/dorsiflexion.

⚠️ Aetiology (Causes):

* Forceful ankle dorsiflexion with eversion (common in skiing, basketball, football).
* SPR tear or retinacular laxity.
* Shallow fibular groove (anatomical variant).
* Recurrent ankle sprains.

📊 Incidence:

* Rare but often under-diagnosed in chronic “ankle instability”.
* More common in athletes and dancers.

đź’ˇ Why Physiotherapy Matters:

* Early detection prevents chronic instability.
* Peroneal strengthening + proprioceptive retraining.
* Balance and neuromuscular control drills.
* Taping or bracing may assist during sport.
* Persistent or recurrent cases → surgical retinaculum repair.

Morton’s Neuroma

👣🔥 That burning, tingling pain in the ball of your foot might be Morton’s Neuroma!

📌 Aetiology: Caused by thickening of tissue around the digital nerves, often from tight shoes or repetitive pressure.

📊 Incidence: More common in women aged 40–60, particularly those wearing high heels or doing high-impact activities.

🦴 Anatomy: Typically affects the interdigital nerve between the 3rd & 4th toes.

👟 Physio treatment may include footwear advice, orthotics, nerve gliding, and activity modification.

Don’t sit still too long

We spend so much of our day sitting—at desks, in cars, or on the couch.

But our bodies were designed to move! 🙆

Long periods of sitting can lead to stiffness, back pain, and reduced circulation.

The good news?

It only takes a couple of minutes to reset.

Stand up, stretch, walk around, or do a quick posture check.

Set a timer or reminder every hour to move your body, even briefly.

These little breaks keep your muscles happy and your joints mobile.

Your body will reward you with more energy and less pain throughout the day.ďż˝

👶 Play = exercise for kids

For kids, exercise doesn’t need to be structured—it happens naturally through play! 🛝

Running, climbing, jumping, and playing games all build strength, balance, and coordination.

Children need at least 60 minutes of active play each day to support healthy growth and development.

Encouraging movement early builds lifelong habits, improves confidence, and boosts learning too.

Whether it’s kicking a ball, riding a bike, or dancing in the living room, play is the best kind of exercise.

So let the kids run free, get messy, and have fun—their bodies and brains will thank you. ⚽🎨

🦵 Strong legs, strong knees

Knee pain can make everyday tasks feel harder—but the good news is, the right movement can help. 💡

Strengthening your quads, hips, and glutes supports your knees and reduces strain on the joint.

Think of your muscles as natural shock absorbers—they take the pressure off your knees when they’re strong.

Low-impact exercises like step-ups, bridges, or resistance band work are excellent ways to build leg strength without overloading the joints.

Pair strength training with stretching and good posture, and your knees will thank you for years to come.

Move smart, move strong!ďż˝

⏱️ Consistency over intensityYou don’t need to exercise for hours or push yourself to exhaustion to see results. In fact, small, consistent efforts matter far more than occasional intense workouts. 🙌

Even 10 minutes of activity—whether it’s a quick walk, a stretch session, or bodyweight exercises—can make a big difference when repeated daily.

The secret is building movement into your routine so it becomes a habit.

Think long-term, not short-term.

Remember: progress comes from what you do most often, not what you do once in a while.

Move a little every day and watch the benefits add up!
