Hello my name is Richard Birkett, I am a local Personal Trainer who has achieved a Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training. This achievement has given me the opportunity to work with a wide range of ages, abilities and fitness levels all achieving fantastic results. Helping others is my biggest passion and seeing the effectiveness of my safe, fun and friendly approach to Health, Fitness and Well-being has kept me going strong. Well we didn’t quite get the 🇬🇧 British record which cost me the Gold Medal🥇 but was very happy with my 2 lifts that I completed.

Both 240kg and 255kg flew up so happy to come 2nd 🥈 nothing more I could have done.

What better way to do it at his Arnold Sports Festival and on the weekend both myself and are competing 🏋️‍♀️

What a lovely, motivated, humble and funny guy 👍 they say don’t meet your heroes but I wasn’t disappointed 😊

Chin Up Mistakes

❌ Something I see on a daily basis, so if you want to get the most out of your CHIN UPS and improve them make sure you are not doing these 2 MISTAKES ⬇️

1. Lifting KNEES up
2. Not RETRACTING and DEPRESSING shoulder blades (putting shoulder blades in your back pocket)

1. Lifting knees up

Doing this is causing so many energy leaks in the kinetic chain.

Solution ⬇️

* Create full body tension by keeping the body straight and recruit as many muscles as you can
* Brace that CORE
* Squeeze those GLUTES 🍑

2. RETRACTING and DEPRESSING shoulder blades

Solution ⬇️

* Practice RETRACTING and DEPRESSING your shoulder blades either on a DEAD HANG or LAT PULLDOWN MACHINE
* Utilising this action will STABILISE the SCAPULA and the surrounding muscles will be engaged to help you with the exercise (the more muscles working together the easier the exercise will be and the more weight you can shift)
* Improved SHOULDER MECHANICS and SAFER exercise to perform
* Also this will shift some of the LOAD off the BICEPS and shift onto the bigger and primary (synergist) muscles
* Think about CHEST to the BAR instead of CHIN OVER the BAR

😣 SUFFERING FROM BACK PAIN

✋ UNFORTUNATELY MASSAGE ISN’T JUST THE ANSWER ITS JUST PART OF IT

FIND ROOT CAUSE, GET MOVING, GET MOBILE & GET STRONG 💪

DON’T worry I’m not saying don’t get a massage I would encourage it and always do but if it is coupled with STRENGTH & MOBILITY TRAINING you’re never going to get out of the PAIN 😫

If your not EXERCISING or completing MOBILITY / CORRECTIVE STRENGTH EXERCISES and STRETCHES then having a massage will only give you a temporary relief I’m sorry to say 😞

I’m all for people and clients having a MASSAGE but if you totally rely on this to help alleviate BACK PAIN then you will never cure the root cause of the problem.

* Do you have to SIT most of the day for your JOB?
* Spend a lot of time sat down DRIVING?
* Sat watching TV for hours?
* Have POOR POSTURE or not aware of it?

I imagine most of us have answered YES then you seriously need to think about giving me a shout for either some PERSONAL TRAINING with specialised exercises to help you or a PROGRAMME you can complete on your own.

Muscle Sequence Order

Great guide for Reference and to help PTs that are new to the industry or unsure about structure, planning and wanting to learn.

Muscle Sequence Order (there is a reason why you should train certain muscles before other muscles (ask for more details)

1. Chest (pectoral muscles)
2. Back (latissimus dorsi)
3. Thigh (quadriceps)

⬆️ Top 3 can be done in any order as they are all the main muscle groups

1. Hamstrings / Biceps Femoris
2. Biceps
3. Shoulders (deltoids)
4. Triceps
5. Calves (gastrocnemius / soleus
6. Upper Abs (re**us abdominis)

⬆️ Follow the above order to prevent potential injury and not getting the most out of each muscle groups.

Additional Muscle Group Options (extras) ⬇️

* Adductors / TFL (inner and outer hip)
* Lower Back (ere**us spinae)
* Obliques (side of trunk)
* Glutes
* Trapezius
* Forearm Flexors / Extensors
* Hip Flexors
* Deep Core

ℹ️ These additional muscle groups would be slotted in specific parts of the full body routine (ask for more information and understanding why you should train your muscles in a certain order)

Unfortunately with the internet 🛜 and all the social media influencers today pushing these stupid workout and advanced split routines the old FULL BODY WORKOUT is forgotten about.

These sort of workouts are highly effective for BEGINNER CLIENTS or someone who is looking to LOSE BODY FAT and WEIGHT as it targets a lot of different muscles and you can do it 3 x per week.

Hope this helps as unfortunately we are in a world of where there is too much 💩 on the internet and social media and the industry is saturated with Social Media Personal Trainers 😡

Been really focused these last couple of months on getting her stronger and stronger and achieving a long term goal of 1 full chin up.

Not only did we get one but 2 with full ROM chest to bar.
