After 27 years at Stanville Primary School, Andy Runacres is retiring and starting an exciting new chapter.

We’ve loved working with Andy and the amazing team at Stanville over the past 8 years. It’s such a welcoming school with staff who truly care about giving children the best support, especially when it comes to speech and language development.

Last Saturday, HYFC Under 8s, the team proudly sponsored by Soundswell, was invited along to West Bromwich Albion's training ground to play against their young Academy players ⚽

It was a fantastic and very memorable day filled with excitement, smiles, and brilliant football - one the Harborne Youth players (and their parents!) won’t forget anytime soon.

📣 Welcome to the second post in our latest series...

Every teacher is a teacher of SEND.

It’s a phrase many people working in education will recognise from the SEND Code of Practice (2014).

But in 2026, schools are facing growing challenges in supporting pupils with a wide range of needs.

Across the country, many schools have introduced spaces like Hubs, Dens, Woodland Rooms and calming rooms to help pupils who need additional support during the school day.

In some schools these work brilliantly.

In others, staff are finding it harder to make them work as intended.

Often the difference isn’t the room itself - it’s the support, training and confidence of the staff working in them 🫶

A well-designed space can help.
But the real impact comes from skilled adults who know how to respond to pupils’ needs ✅

In our latest blog, we reflect on why investing in people is just as important as investing in provision.

✨The Soundswell team had a brilliant Winter (& slightly festive! 🎄) Training Day at Moor Pool Hall, Birmingham! It’s always lovely to bring our speech and language therapists together to share updates, learn something new and catch up properly.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch from Flavoured Fork - Catering before diving into an excellent presentation on Artificial Intelligence, alongside the launch of our new AI Guidelines.

Our highlight of the day was guest speaker Helen Georgiou, Strategic Improvement Lead with the SEN Assessment and Review Service (SENAR) at Birmingham City Council. Helen gave us a really clear and informative update on the latest EHCP changes and shared lots of practical insights that will help us support children and families even more effectively.

A big thank you to Helen for joining us - we hope to welcome her back again soon!

As we look forward to our upcoming Winter Team Away Day, here’s a throwback to when we gathered the Soundswell team for a day of connection, creativity, and collaboration back in May🌿💬✨

Held in Birmingham, the day was packed with presentations, team discussions, and plenty of time to reconnect.

In the afternoon, one of our fabulous therapists, Bryony, led a creative session where we made clay faces using natural objects we'd collected over lunch. Such a fun way to experience the activities she uses with children in her therapy work!

Earlier this month, our therapist Kate delivered a SWIMS training session (Soundswell Working in Mainstream Schools) with Sarah Buckley Therapies Ltd. at their Head Office in Bromley.

The session gave therapists a deeper understanding of the national SLCN context and equipped them with practical tools for delivering effective interventions in mainstream settings.
