Mental Health Together

Mental Health Together Mental Health Together engage with Derbyshire and Derby mental health receivers and carers to influence positive change.

Part of the NHS Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board. We welcome anybody with lived experience to be an Expert by Experience. We are here to ensure patients, service receivers and carers are involved in how health and social care services are run. By sharing your experiences you could help shape decisions about how services are changed.

🌟 Today is Carers Rights Day - “Know your rights, use your rights.”

Jean and Rose, Experts with Mental Health Together, share:
“Between us we have 40 years’ experience caring for family members with long-term mental health conditions. It’s been hard to have a voice, and we want to help change that – which is why we joined Mental Health Together.”

In the UK, 5.8 million unpaid carers support loved ones every day. They are the backbone of health and social care, yet often unseen, unheard, and unpaid.

You can get more support from Derbyshire Carers Association and Universal Services for Carers in Derby https://www.facebook.com/Carersinderby

Recently, the ICB hosted a session on building a carer-friendly Derby & Derbyshire. Watch the recording on our YouTube channel. For unanswered questions, email: ddicb.engagement@nhs.net

Let’s make sure carers know their rights and feel supported.

Carers Rights Day is about raising awareness of the rights the UK’s 5.8 million unpaid carers are entitled to, and to help them get the support they need and the recognition they deserve.

Later this week it's Carers Rights Day (20th November).
It's important to recognise what life is like for carers, promote where they can go for help and support, and make them aware of their rights and how to access them.
For more info and support visit:

The Care Act 2014 gives the same rights to carers as those they care for. There's a legal duty to assess a carer's needs and make sure support is available.

•Reflections from Experts attending the Foundations in Patient Leadership led by David Gilbert, exploring how lived experience is reshaping service design.
•Experts' involvement in the urgent mental health care review in Derbyshire, including the Men-SAT stakeholder sessions and summit.
•Matt’s powerful story in the Su***de Prevention video campaign, shared in collaboration with Derbyshire Mental Health and Su***de Prevention.
•Ongoing collaboration with Mark Powell, CEO of Derbyshire Healthcare, through our Expert Peer Support Meetings.

A group of our Experts recently completed the “Foundations in Patient Leadership” course, led by David Gilbert, England’s first Patient Director.

With powerful insights drawn from lived experience, the course explored what it truly means to bring the patient voice into service design. The Experts reflected deeply on their roles, questioning norms, and envisioning new possibilities for patient leadership.
