✨ It’s Acupuncture Awareness Week! ✨

The British Acupuncture Council is taking steps to strengthen collaboration between healthcare professionals and BAcC-accredited acupuncturists.

In a new article for a leading healthcare journal, CEO Alex Jacobs explains how traditional acupuncture can play a key role in supporting integrated care and improving mental health across the UK.

As integrated care systems (ICSs) face funding challenges, workforce pressures, and rising demand – especially in primary care and mental health – health leaders are urgently seeking evidence-based solutions. Growing interest in outcome-based and integrated models highlights the need to understa...

✨ It’s Acupuncture Awareness Week! ✨

Did you know acupuncture isn’t just for pain or physical issues? It can also be a powerful therapy for supporting mental health and emotional wellbeing. In Chinese medicine, the mind and body are strongly connected — when one is out of balance, the other can be too.

A recent survey by the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) shows that more people than ever are turning to acupuncture to help manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health concerns. Yet many GPs don’t realise just how beneficial acupuncture can be for their patients.

That’s why, to celebrate Acupuncture Awareness Week 2025, the BAcC has launched “Collaborate with Confidence – Why refer to a British Acupuncture Council acupuncturist?” — a helpful guide for healthcare professionals about the benefits of referring patients to qualified acupuncturists.

✨ Welcome Nicola ✨

From 22nd September, we are delighted to welcome Nicola Wardhaugh to Lochthorn Medical Centre on Mondays.

A Master’s-qualified acupuncturist, Nicola has a particular interest in helping patients navigate stress-related conditions, women’s health concerns, pain, and the mental health challenges faced by teenagers and young adults.

Her arrival marks a meaningful full-circle moment — 14 years ago, she was Kirsty’s patient, an experience that inspired her to retrain in acupuncture.

Nicola is a full British Acupuncture Council member and a published researcher. Her work exploring acupuncture for trauma following the Grenfell Tower Fire reflects her depth of expertise in supporting those affected by stress and emotional strain.

She looks forward to joining Kirsty and Catriona, bringing her calm, compassionate, and evidence-informed approach to the clinic — and to welcoming both new and returning patients.

Appointments for Mondays at Lochthorn can be booked directly via her website:

It’s been a while since my last update, but the clinic has been steadily focused on what matters most — supporting your wellness through acupuncture ✨

I get asked a lot why I don’t post more often — the simple answer is I’m usually too busy working with patients to be on social media 😅 But with July already here, I’m making some changes and will be sharing more regularly.

Exciting updates are on the way — stay tuned, and thank you for your continued support!

Kirsty 🥰

🧧 Happy Chinese New Year 🧧
2025 marks the Year of the Snake, a symbol of rebirth, transformation, knowledge, wisdom, intuition, and creativity. Rooted in the earth yet dynamic in its forward movement, the snake symbolises healing and a deeper connection of mind, body, and spirit.

This year invites us to shed old habits and outdated ways of being, making space for growth and renewal.

💫Wishing all our lovely patients a happy and healthy 2025💫

When I say ‘happy new year’,
I’m not for a moment,
expecting this to occur,
for that is not possible,
a year must be all things.

Happiness must come and go,
like the tides and the winds,
just as sadness,
and all the emotions in between.

When I say ‘happy new year’,
I’m really wishing you,
a baseline of peace,
of gratitude.

Because if you can sit with these things,
for the most part,
happiness will thrive,
when it does arrive,
and sadness will know its place in the mix.

If you can nourish these things,
daily,
you will also grow hope,
for it flourishes in such soil.

And hope is the key,
to this enigmatic state
of ‘happiness’ we seek.

When I say ‘happy new year’,
I’m really wishing you more happy days,
than sad days,
more joy than misery,
more laughter than tears…
and the wisdom to accept,
that they all belong.

Happy new year.
