Hello, some of you may have heard about large-scale protests taking place across the UK at 6pm every evening the last week or so, including outside Downing Street, to protest the ongoing intentional starving of Palestinians by Israel in Gaza. It involves banging an empty pot with a wooden spoon to highlight and protest the situation. It’s been called for by a number of prominent Palestinians and is being promoted by Mothers Against Genocode Scotland, amongst others.

A group of us would like to start doing this regularly. *Please join us outside the Dunbar Town House Museum and Gallery on Dunbar High Street just before 6pm on Friday 1st August with an empty pot and spoon to join this protest. * It won’t take long.

This is a tiny way to do something positive about this dreadful situation and let the people of Gaza know that we see them and have heard their request. Please don’t feel anxious about attending. This is a very specific, peaceful, lawful, family-friendly protest about a very specific issue. Please feel free to bring a banner or sign. We’ll be bringing kids. If anyone is concerned about attending a protest, we’re happy to talk you through why it’s lawful.

Please spread the word. It would be great to get lots of us out again, after a great turn out last Thursday.

For the love of yoga

My yoga journey started when I was very little... I used to run around the house chasing my brother as my Dad was in the middle of the kitchen doing a headstand. When there was chaos in the house he was sat there on his Zen cushion meditating with crystals close by. Always adding a sense of calm to the mist.

In 2011 I started to practice yoga in another chaotic time of life ...living in a city ! I was seeking peace and balance and yoga found its way back to me. I explored the Asana side of Yoga first, enjoying connecting the breath to the movement. I remember cracking ujjayi breath and feeling overjoyed. To have been able to use this ocean breath on the early morning underground commute was a winner for me.

Another part of Yoga that took me by surprise but I totally fell in love with was the chanting and Mantras side. I spend some beautiful months on a Ashram in Ecuador on the outskirts of the amazon rainforest. My days on the Ashram were equally blissful and painful. Slowly I started to peel away layers that no longer belonged to me. The more I connected to nature the closer I came to touching the real me. Our days consisted of an early 4am rise followed by chanting and meditation then yoga Asana, happily followed by a huge yummy breakfast. Mid morning we would all get on with different jobs often physical which brought on a appetite for lunch. In the afternoon we had a choice of sitting in nature or learning a new skill sharing or preparing dinner. Evenings were always chilled and early bed time. I can close my eyes and still vividly remember drinking hot chocolate (cacao beans straight from the trees in the garden ) and looking up at the big starry sky and feeling so blessed to be a part of this existence.
