It's respiratory illness season! Please help us to keep our patients and staff safe.

👬If you are coming into hospital for an appointment or attending the Emergency Department please try to come with only one other person.

👏Wash your hands regularly or use the hand gel provided at hospital entrances and in each ward and clinic area.

🤧If you have flu-like symptoms, however minor, do not visit people in hospital.

Listeria bacteria can be found in cold-smoked or cured fish, such as smoked salmon, smoked trout and gravlax.

As the risk from listeria increases with age, older adults should be aware of the risk and take steps to prevent listeria infection. To reduce your risk:

• eat by the use-by date
• keep refrigerated below 5°C
• choose safer options like tinned fish or fully-cooked smoked fish

With case numbers for flu rising sharply this week, we're continuing to encourage those who are eligible to come forward to receive their vaccine.

New figures published today show that laboratory-confirmed cases of flu more than doubled in the past week, rising from 845 to 1,759.

Those aged 65 and over, pregnant women, and those with underlying health conditions are most at risk of serious flu illness, hospitalisation, and in some cases, death. This is why the flu vaccination programme is focussed on protecting those who are most vulnerable to becoming seriously ill with flu.
