👋🏼MEET THE TEAM👋🏼

Welcome Clive to Team Alba! 💙

With over 15 years of clinical experience, Clive specialises in the functional assessment and treatment of both adults and children — from infants with cerebral palsy to professional athletes and older adults.
He’s completed extensive training in Developmental Kinesiology, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation, and Manipulative Therapy, and is also a qualified Iyengar Yoga teacher with over 25 years of teaching experience worldwide.

Clive spent seven years at Prague City Hospital teaching rehabilitation to doctors and physiotherapists, sharing innovative approaches to post-surgical care.

Outside the clinic, you’ll find him surfing, hiking, or exploring the mountains with his wife Rach — often followed by good food, jazz, and a lazy beach day. 🌊

We are delighted to welcome Inarah to Team Alba!

Hi, I’m Inarah! I’m the newest addition to the chiropractic team 💙

Many of you might have seen me shadowing the other chiros in the past couple weeks!

A little bit about myself - I’m Singaporean, but grew up in Qatar and Malaysia and I am really excited to now experience living in Dundee!
I’m a cat lover (I’ve fostered over 40!) and you might see me at the local climbing gyms as well.

My journey in Chiropractic began as a patient, so I’ve experienced firsthand the benefits and the power of chiropractic!

That’s also why I’m really passionate about chiropractic care for everyone and I am super excited to work towards that with the Alba team!

💥 Disc Bulge vs. Herniation: What’s the Difference? 💥

Back pain can be confusing—especially when you hear terms like disc bulge and disc herniation. So let’s break it down! 👇

🌀 Disc Bulge
Think of it like a tire that’s slightly overinflated—the disc (the cushion between your vertebrae) is still intact but bulges outward. It may not always cause pain, but if it presses on a nerve, symptoms can appear.

⚡ Disc Herniation
This is when the inner gel-like center of the disc actually breaks through the outer layer. It’s more likely to press on nerves, which can lead to pain, numbness, or tingling—especially down the legs (sciatica).

We are delighted to welcome Jamie to Team Alba!

Hi I’m Jamie, I’m a new massage therapist at Alba. I have been doing massage therapy for over a year now and I really enjoy helping people move/feel better. In my spare time I will be either swimming, cycling or running or watching sports whether it’s going to watch Dundee FC or watching snooker, cycling, football or tennis at home on the TV.
My favourite thing about Alba is its strong reputation within the local community. 🙋🏽‍♂️

Is it Scoliosis or is it Compensation?

Josh initially came to us looking like the picture on the left, training for a pro youth football team this wasn't ideal for him. After 3 months of chiropractic care and a lot of guidance and time spent on his own postural work at home, we seen massive improvements!

While we do not claim to "cure" scoliosis, we can significantly help with compensations the body makes which is the progress you can see in the picture on the right.

Are you a belly breather or a chest breather? 🤔

Take a moment now to tune into your breath...

Why is this so important for our nervous system? ⬇

Belly breathing (diaphragmatic breathing) primarily engages the diaphragm, leading to deeper, more efficient breaths. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system, also known as the "rest and digest" system. This calms the body by slowing heart rate, lowering blood pressure, reducing stress hormones like cortisol, and stimulating the vagus nerve, which promotes relaxation and improved digestion.

In contrast, shallow chest breathing relies on accessory muscles in the chest and neck. This often signals a "fight or flight" response, activating the sympathetic nervous system, increasing heart rate and potentially contributing to tension, anxiety, and even chronic stress.

Therefore, belly breathing is generally more beneficial for promoting a state of calm and balance within the nervous system.

💙 A quick exercise you can do at home to practice - Lie on your back, place one hand on the belly and the other on the chest. On your inhale, expand your belly into the hand and expand the rib cage - keeping the chest still. Fully exhale, relaxing your body into the ground and repeat!
