Giving up smoking is the single most important lifestyle decision that anyone can make to improve their health and the health of their baby.

Anyone who is pregnant, over 16 and who smokes in Tayside can go along to their own local pharmacy for a free consultation and if they wish to stop can access a free programme of stop smoking support and ni****ne replacement therapy. They will also be eligible for the Tayside financial incentive scheme and receive up to £50 per month in supermarket vouchers for food and groceries up till their baby is 12 weeks old.

Participants are also offered free ni****ne replacement therapy (NRT) and support from pharmacy staff as part of the programme. The mum-to-be can also nominate someone close to them who smokes to support them through their quit journey. The nominee can also access free NRT and support through their chosen community pharmacy and also access the incentive scheme for 12 weeks.

Anyone who wants to stop smoking can call NHS Tayside Quit Your Way on 01382 424127 or email tay.smokingcessationservice@nhs.scot to find out about the ways in which NHS Tayside can help support people to become smoke free.

Please recycle any v**es carefully and per local council guidance.

They say in the article:
"The fire burned for almost 40 hours in the general waste shed at Binn Group’s 62-acre ecopark near Glenfarg last month.

It is thought the blaze was caused by a discarded battery or v**e.

Firefighters were called to Binn Farm at around 8pm on October 17 and left the scene just after 4pm on October 19.

No one was injured in the incident."

They also say in the article:
“Multiple times per week in that shed when we’re operating there will be a battery go on fire or a v**e burst into flames.

“But because we’re in there operating, it’s easy to pull it out and extinguish it."

The Binn Group says a 40-hour blaze at its site near Glenfarg was likely caused by a lithium battery or a v**e.

This week sees the To***co Team visiting the Muirton Community Fridge which is part of Letham4All and is supported by volunteers.

The Community Fridge is often mistaken as a Food Bank but the Community Fridge is open to anyone regardless of their financial circumstances, no referrals are needed and it can be visited as often as you like. Think about all the good food that gets wasted by local supermarkets and suppliers – that’s what inspired some local people to develop a Community Fridge, where good food is freely available to be used in the community to help tackle climate challenges.

The focus of this weeks Facebook post is finances. I'm sure we are all feeling the pinch of the cost of living. Everything seems to be getting more and more expensive.

Of course, smoking has an impact on your finances. The cost of a packet of 20 ci******es can cost up to £16. Add this up if you smoke 20 a day and you are spending over £480 a month.

What would you spend this on?

In Tayside, we also have an incentive scheme to quit smoking that offers £50 a month in weekly vouchers to spend at a local supermarket. Your local pharmacy can give you more information and let you know if you are eligible for the incentive scheme.

Remember, you can visit any local community pharmacy or call the Quit Your Way service locally on 01382 424127 or email tay.smokingcessationservice@nhs.scot to find out about all the ways NHS Tayside can help support you to become smoke free.
