✨ How We Began…From one small hall to millions of lives changed.

Slimming World began in 1969, when Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE opened the very first group in a little church hall in Alfreton, Derbyshire. From her own experience, Margaret knew that losing weight isn’t just about food; it’s about support, kindness, and genuine belief. She dreamt of creating a space where no one ever felt judged… only encouraged.

From that single hall, her dream grew into a family of thousands of Consultants and hundreds of thousands of members across the UK and Ireland.

Margaret always believed that weight loss should feel freeing, never restrictive. She wanted Slimming World to keep pioneering, keep caring, and keep proving that everyone deserves to feel healthy, confident and celebrated.

Today, every leaflet delivered, every poster put up, every warm welcome at the door, every milestone celebrated — all of it continues Margaret’s legacy.

She asked us to carry her mission forward:
✨ to build communities of support
✨ to innovate
✨ to believe in every single member
✨ and to change lives, one week at a time.
