It’s been a busy few months at Peak Counselling, and I’m currently running at full capacity with a short waiting list for new referrals.

I’ve also been making plans to secure my own therapy office again by early 2026. This will allow me to offer more in-person sessions, alongside the online work that continues to be a core part of my practice.

🌱 “Why EMDR Works Online Too” 🌱
Many people wonder whether EMDR therapy is just as effective online as it is in person.
The good news is: it is. âś…

With the right tools and therapist guidance, online EMDR can help process trauma, reduce distress, and bring lasting change just as effectively as in person therapy.

For clients, online therapy can also mean:
✨ More flexibility
✨ A familiar, safe environment
✨ Less travel and time commitment

If you’ve been considering EMDR but aren’t sure whether online sessions will work for you please do get in touch and I can answer any questions.

You don’t need to be an IT expert either (I’m certainly not)

We can all feel like we’re getting bombarded with stressful thoughts at times, especially on a Monday morning. Here’s a strategy from ACT that can help break this cycle:

🧠 Thank Your Mind: A Simple Way to Reduce the Power of Difficult Thoughts

Sometimes our minds can feel like they’re on overdrive, throwing up worry, self-doubt, or negative thoughts. Our minds do this as they think they are helping us to come up with a solution to a problem. One simple but powerful approach is to acknowledge those thoughts with a quiet “thank you, mind” instead of fighting them.

By doing this, you:
• Step back from the intensity of difficult thoughts
• Reduce their power over your emotions
• Create space to focus on what really matters to you

It’s a gentle way to build psychological flexibility and respond to life with more calm and clarity.

✨ Try it today: the next time a difficult thought pops up, say “thank you, mind,” notice it, and then return your focus to what matters most.

Are you finding yourself caught in the same patterns over and over again, whether in relationships, work, or how you treat yourself?

It can feel frustrating when you know something isn’t working but can’t quite shift it on your own.

This is where therapy can help. EMDR and CBT aren’t only for people with long histories of trauma — they can also be powerful tools for making lasting changes when you’re ready to break free from unhelpful cycles.

If you’d like a space to explore what’s keeping you stuck, and support to move towards something different, I’d be happy to help.

Wise words and reminds me of this Terry Pratchett quote:

“It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die. That is true. It is called Living."

Sometimes we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to achieve goals and the next step, the next milestone, the next achievement. I know this is something my mind tries to pull me towards a lot of the time. This often leads us to unhappiness, frustration and low mood when things don’t work out.

When we focus instead on living by our values such as kindness, honesty and connection, we can find a steadier sense of direction. Even when life takes unexpected turns, our values are something we can always return to.

In therapy, exploring your values can help you feel clearer about what really matters to you, and how to live in a way that feels true to yourself.

What to Expect in a First Session
Starting therapy can feel like a big step — especially if you’re not sure what to expect.

Here’s what the first session usually involves:

- A conversation about what’s bringing you to counselling
- A chance to ask any questions you may have
- An overview of how EMDR works and how treatment is tailored to your needs
- No pressure to share everything — we work at your pace
- Looking at what outcomes you want from the therapy as this will guide our treatment plan

You don’t have to talk about anything you don’t want to at any time during any therapy.

I offer a free 15-minute online consultation so we can talk through what you’re looking for and see what working together would look like before committing to an initial session.
