A FLAMING PAIN

One Christmas tradition is to pour brandy over the pudding and set light to it. If you get burnt as a result, hold the burnt area under cold, running water for at least ten minutes and then loosely wrap it in some kitchen film. This will stop infection and also won’t stick when it’s removed. If in doubt about the seriousness of the burn, or if it’s a child who has been burned, seek medical help.

Our tip of the month! Treating hypothermia.

If you're treating someone with mild hypothermia at home, or waiting for medical treatment to arrive:
Move the person indoors or somewhere warm as soon as possible.
Once the person is in a warm environment, carefully remove any wet clothing and dry the person.
Wrap them in blankets, towels, coats (whatever you have available), protecting their head and torso first.
Your own body heat can help someone with hypothermia. Gently hugging them can help warm them up.
Encourage the person to shiver if they're capable of doing so.
If possible, give the person warm drinks (not alcohol) or high-energy foods, such as chocolate, to help warm them up. However, it's important to only do this if they can swallow normally (ask them to give a cough to see if they can swallow).
Once the person’s body temperature has increased, keep them warm and dry.

If like us you had children back to school this month the following tip might resonate!!

Blisters:

Myth: Break the blister.

Fact: Leave the blister as it is.

Popping the blister will only expose the underlying skin to further damage and possible infection. The blister will normally heal on its own. Covering the blister with a plaster may help prevent further pain and discomfort.
