Bringbalanceback2u Yoga for everyone
We comply with GDPR policy May 2018 My yoga journey started in the late nineties as I was working for British Airways.

I was flying around the world, but I didn't feel very grounded. I started to do a yoga class in every country I visited. After the first class I was hooked! I felt like it helped me feel grounded and balanced. I then started to do as many classes as I could, even when I wasn't flying. When 9/11 happened, my company offered unpaid leave and I decided to take my love of yoga further and look for a teacher training course. I qualified in 2003 and haven't looked back! My children inspired me to take my yoga journey further and I qualified in baby yoga with Birthlight and children's yoga with Calm for kids a few years later. I continue to train each year with my favourite teachers, which include Julie G and Makunda. I teach all levels and my aim is to help people with their journey. I teach with humour and a genuine desire to help people find the balance & grounding that I found in this crazy world we live in! December is here!

Probably the busiest time of year in our calender and an important time, to try and maintain our equilibrium.

Seasonally living, this is the time of recovering and rejuvenating. A time of less doing and more being. A time of winding down, having less of a to do list and saying No to more requests. The conclusion of our year.

And ironically, this tends to be the busiest and most sociable time for us!
So prepare yourselves.

Our bodies and brains need time to recover from the previous months of activities. It's a time to reflect on the past years journey and set intentions for the new one to come. A time of introspection.

So, save some time for yourself during the Xmas busyness, to periodically sit and breathe and check in with the body, to bring some balance back.

Giving Thanks.

Our American friends celebrate the biggest holiday of their year, this coming Thursday, Thanksgiving.
They spend time with their family and friends and all share a big turkey feast, much like our Xmas day and give Thanks for an abundant harvest and all that they are grateful for.

How often do we stop and appreciate all that we have in life and think about what we are grateful for?

'Be thankful for what you have, you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never ever have enough. " Oprah Winfrey.

Sometimes there is so much we feel is not going right, or we need to change or do, that we forget to be grateful for what we have.

Our friends, family, a home, a job, life lessons, mistakes that make us wise, choices, memories, our Health etc.

Counting our blessings boosts our happiness and outlook in life and thinking about positive experiences and giving Thanks helps us see what is here, instead of what isn't.

I am grateful for you all and our lovely yoga community and I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the last year of practicing yoga with you all. You have taught me much. It has been a privilege. πŸ™

Where has all the light gone?

Light is so important for regulating our circadian rhythm. It impacts our mood and sleep and physical health.

Natural light exposure, even 10 to 20 minutes daily, can help our internal clock and sleep quality, aswell as boosting our vitamin D and helping our energy levels and mood.

Reduced daylight in the winter months can disrupt our circadian rhythm and can lead to lower seratonin levels, causing winter blues and reduced energy levels.

So, in these dark winter months, let's get out there through the day and see if we can and recharge our light!

We will embrace and use these winter months however, to go inwards and be still and ask what we truly need going forward and to rejuvenate and plant seeds for our re-emergence in the Spring.

Autumn is a Vata time of year in Ayurveda.

A time of dry skin, lips and hair, feeling anxious and forgetful, cold hands and feet, cracking joints and muscle tightness and stodge craving!

To help us thrive in this season we need to keep warm, drink herbal teas, soups and eat crumbles, have consistent routines and be gentle, slow and rhythmic with our movements.

Your body will welcome this shift in pace and know what it needs, you just have to listen.

In yoga, a time for grounding, nurturing and strengthening.

Welcome back after half term. I hope you all enjoyed the break and a change from routine.

6 more weeks of Yoga before the Xmas break! Classes will run from November 4th until our last class on December 9th.
Then our Xmas meal/social gathering will be on December 16th, venue to be confirmed.

This term pop a blanket in your yoga bag, for extra support and cushioning and added warmth during relaxation for the colder weeks ahead.

Last class before the October break.
Tuesday 21st at 7pm.

Soon time to carve and light your pumpkins! This tradition was said to protect homes from wandering spirits on Halloween night. A night said to be when the spirit World makes contact with the physical world.

In many countries this time of year is dedicated to remembering those who have departed and the lanterns served as a guide for their souls to return back to visit their earthly home.

For Northumbrians it marked the beginning of winter, the colder darker half of the year and a time for pumpkin soup, apple crumble and roaring fires.

In yoga we will mark the end of term with a warming practice, to prepare ourselves for the colder months ahead.

Next class after tomorrow is November 4th.

We are hurtling towards the darker nights now, daylight will be less, the temperature will drop and October half term is rapidly approaching. Two more classes before the break.

The leaves are changing colour and the trees are preparing to let go and gather in for the winter. A beautiful time of transformation.

For us, a time to keep warm and eat warm and like the Spring clear out, we need to let go of things we don't plan on moving forward with into the winter/New Year. A mental and physical decluttering. What needs to change? What do we need to let go of?

This week 14th October, we will be focusing on releasing tension and muscle stiffness with slow rhythmic movements. And our last week, 21st October, we will be raising the heat with a few challenging sequences and poses, to stoke our internal fire for the months ahead.

The Chakras are energy centres that radiate out from different points along the spine.
The seven Chakras govern the seven main sets of endocrine glands, to balance the flow of energy/hormones throughout the body.

Your yoga practice is the first step towards aligning your body and balancing each chakra.
From grounding and stability to accessing your intuition, each one works in conjunction with the other.

So it is important to keep everything flowing and balanced, for our physical, emotional and spiritual health.

The sun is setting on September and we will be in October tomorrow!

With the celebration of the Autumn equinox last week, it is officially the start of Autumn. 🍁 From this point forward the nights grow longer and the temperatures starts to drop.

We harvest our crops( I am inundated with apples, please let me know if you want some bringing to class 🍎), we start to think about layering up, heating our homes and warming food and practices, and like nature, starting to think about shedding things which we no longer need or serves us going forward.

In yoga a great time for balance, release and introspection.
