The yellow envelope has arrived! We are literally on a countdown, and I'm a bit stressed out with the chest infection lingering. I have committed to this last minute and started training really late, but boy has it been worth it!
What this challenge has given me so far is incredible. I have learned to enjoy the night runs in the cold and rain, I have learned to prep food and snacks at night, so we have it that little bit easier in the morning, I have learned to let go of an expectation of a clean and tidy house, and I got used to doing a few minutes here and there.
I have started to pay more attention to my sleep and nutrition more, respect my recommendation for recovery times, and I actually got a lot more curious having to plan my training routes a bit.
Of course I have run hungry and tired at times, of course I have overbooked my kids holiday camps, and even brought my daughter to her ballet practice in her school uniform.
But does it matter? Not really. We all mess up at times, and we all need to forgive ourselves when it doesn't really matter.
What does matter, is to reconnect with nature, live and grow with the seasons, experience the weather on my own skin, watch the days grow longer, observe the raindrops in the street lights, and have my girls used to mummy going for a run.
We somehow made it normal. This organised chaos became the new normal, and we all know it needs to be done, and no apologies are needed.
When the girls run with me, I see the sparks in their eyes, we share the joy of movement and speed, and we talk about our bodies, how it's our duty to nourish them and strengthen them, how we are part of this world which is just waiting to give us all that we need to thrive.
Last two weeks before the race, I'm itching to get out there and finish this off with a bang (or a big cough at the moment).
