***MARCH 2012 IS CANINE INCONTINENCE MONTH!***

What is Urine Incontinence? ~ Involuntary loss of urine that is NOT under conscious control.

Who's at risk? ~ Middle aged female dogs, and overweight female dogs.

Have you noticed any of the following? ~ Distinct smell of urine in your dogs bed? Wet scalded back legs? Or dribbling when she stands up or gets excited?

Diagnosis ~ You vet will examine your dog to diagnose exactly what she is suffering from and may preform further tests to rule out other conditions that imitate Urinary Incontinence.

What is my dog going through? ~ Think of your dogs bladder as a balloon, if you fill it with water you need to pinch the neck of the balloon to prevent water from escaping. Your dogs bladder works in a similar way, the Sphincter muscle closes near the neck to prevent urine from leaking - if the Sphincter muscle cannot close properly, urine can leak out.

Helping a dog with Urine Incontinence ~ Effective medical management can help return your pet to a continent state rapidly and effectively.

Summary ~ Speak to your vet about any concerns you may have regarding Urine Incontinence as soon as possible to help repair the bond between you and your pet! Please call to make an appointment, on 01792 299111. Thanks for reading!

Fireworks season is upon us, and as we all know this can be a very stressful time for our pets. There are many different ways that can help us recognise if our pet is stressed, such as - tense muscles, altered sleeping patterns/places, hesitation to go into the garden, unusual habits e.g excessive licking, barking, reduced play, house soiling and attachment/detachment to people or other animals. ..
We stock a range of products to help your pet cope with the stress of fireworks, but also Christmas, house moves and new additions to the family - animal or human!

These include D.A.P and Felliway diffusers, Scullcap & valerian tablets and Zylkene. If you'd like more advice on any of the products, or to discuss any other options, just give us a call or drop in any time.

Pet stress can lead to many different types of unwanted behaviours which can be unpleasant for our pets and distressing for the rest of the family.
