Today is often called Blue Monday, but here at DurhamGate our days are filled with friendly chats over a cuppa to shared activities, music, and plenty of laughter, we believe there’s always something to feel good about.

It’s the little things that make a big difference — feeling part of a community, enjoying good company, and knowing you’re cared for and valued every day.

Crafting offers our residents more than a creative outlet — it supports cognitive health, improves fine motor skills, and brings a wonderful sense of calm and achievement. Most importantly, it brings people together. Crafting is another way we enrich everyday life in our luxury care home—a snapshot of yesterday's craft afternoon, making Valentine and birthday cards together.

Yesterday, we welcomed John Fletcher, Rat Pack singer, to DurhamGate for a truly special afternoon of music and memories.

For many of our residents, the songs of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. aren’t just classics — they’re woven into their life stories. These melodies bring back memories of dances, date nights, family celebrations, and carefree evenings spent singing along to the radio.

Hearing them performed live is a chance to relive moments and celebrate a soundtrack that has stood the test of time.

🎳 Luxury living means enjoying the little pleasures — beautifully done.

At DurhamGate our residents recently enjoyed a relaxed game of bowls as part of our carefully curated activities. Thoughtfully designed to support physical wellbeing, social connection, and enjoyment, activities like bowls help maintain mobility, coordination, and confidence — all while feeling effortless and enjoyable.

In our elegant surroundings, every activity is an opportunity to unwind, connect, and savour life at a comfortable pace. It’s this attention to detail and focus on quality experiences that define luxury care at DurhamGate.

Yesterday we previewed that some of our residents at DurhamGate had enjoyed a lovely flower-arranging activity, and we couldn’t be happier with the results 🌸🌼

Well done to everyone involved — these beautiful arrangements have certainly brightened our day (and our home!)

At DurhamGate we believe a great day is made up of meaningful moments. Like today with a reflective worship that nurtures the spirit to creative hands-on activities like flower arranging that spark joy, every activity has a purpose.

A diverse week helps our residents stay connected, engaged, and fulfilled, whether it’s quiet reflection or colourful creativity, there’s something for everyone to enjoy 💛

Because no two residents are the same, and their days shouldn’t be either.

We had a lovely activity, playing musical bingo with additional prizes won for 'name that tune'. Our little family of bingo players thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon, prizes were won, drinks were drank and chocolates were eaten 🍫🍷with many laughs to be had .

As we get ready to say goodbye to the past 12 months and welcome a brand new year, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on what has been a truly special year here at DurhamGate.

Over the last year, we’ve shared so many wonderful moments — from celebrations and activities to everyday smiles, laughter, and meaningful connections. None of this would be possible without our amazing residents, their families, and our dedicated staff, who make DurhamGate such a warm and caring place to call home.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout the year. We’re excited for what the next 12 months will bring and look forward to creating even more happy memories together.

🎸✨ Elvis Has Left the Building! ✨🎸
Residents were treated to a trip down memory lane this afternoon as Elvis took to the floor for a fantastic live performance. From an iconic jumpsuit to the unmistakable moves, the King’s spirit was alive and well, filling the room with smiles and plenty of sing-along moments.

Feedback from our families "This is the first Christmas that I haven't felt able to manage dad's needs at home, and to have the option of being able to still have Christmas lunch with him at DurhamGate was such a lovely option to have.

The fact that your team give up their own Christmas to make sure the residents get theirs blows my mind. They all did it with a smile, and nothing was too much trouble.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. The Durhamgate team are just amazing (and that's every day, not just at Christmas)."
