Whalley's prescription is due on Christmas Day! 💊💊

He is being very prepared and ticking what he needs ready to put his prescription in next week.

If your prescription is due week commencing 22nd December, please order what you need next week (week commencing 15th December)

This gives us plenty of time to issue your prescription, get it signed and for the chemist to dispense your medication.

‼️Please do not leave it until Christmas Eve‼️

Please note, we are only closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day and then over the weekend as normal. We are back open Monday 29th December and only closed 1 day that week on New Years Day. If your prescription is due in January, you do not need to order it early.

Whalley the Elf made us a display last night for Save the Children - Christmas Jumpers Day 🧑‍🎄

Staff will be wearing Christmas jumpers tomorrow (11th December) to raise money for the Save the Children charity! If you have an appointment tomorrow, why not come in your Christmas jumper, we will all be wearing them 😊😊

Whalley will be hanging around downstairs at Meadowfield all day today, see if you can spot him! He’s also printed some Christmas jumper pictures for any kids to take home and colour in, please let your little ones take one if they are in for an appointment or passing by (they are in the doorway) 🧝

Whalley got a phone call last night from his little brother, Sprinkles, to say that he still hadn’t had his nasal flu vaccine! Luckily, Whalley found some catch up clinics for Sprinkles and he has booked an appointment for 15th December 😊

If your child has missed their nasal flu vaccine, there are currently community catch up clinics available for:

Whalley the Elf has been helping with our Christmas Charity Collection. Every year The Medical Group chooses a Christmas Charity to donate too and this year we went with 'Norah's North Pole'.

Norah's North Pole is a charity that provides Christmas gifts to children who are likely to wake up with nothing on Christmas morning. They work with local schools, social workers and health visitors to help identify the most vulnerable children in the North East and pack Santa sacks of donated toys, so they don't think Santa has forgotten them.

If anyone would like to contribute, there is a drop off point at:

Poplar Tree Garden Centre
Shincliffe,
Durham,
DH1 2NG

Drop off times:
Monday- Friday 9:00- 5:30pm
Saturday 9am-5pm
Sunday 10:30- 4:30pm

However, gift's need to be dropped off by Wednesday 10th December. There is also a QR code on their website were you can buy gifts directly from Amazon.

Whalley the Elf has been caught sneaking into our biscuit tin again! 🍪 🍫

We have told Whalley that treats over the festive period are not a problem but have advised him to make sure he keeps the biscuits as a treat, not a meal!

Whalley agreed and said 1 or 2 biscuits a day is a treat, 10 biscuits a day is trouble! 🍪 🧝

Poor Whalley - while he was snooping around the building last night, he accidentally jammed his hand in the cupboard! He now thinks he may have broken his hand!!!

He asked for our help this morning however our care navigator kindly informed him that the GP surgery is not a Minor Injuries Unit or Walk In Centre.

If you have a minor injury such as possible broken bones, cuts, sprains, burns, stitches etc. please call the surgery first. Our team will assess the situation and, if appropriate, we can refer you directly to the minor injuries unit at Shotley Bridge for the care you need.

We will pass over your details and Shotley Bridge will call you back and give you an appointment time to attend where they have all the equipment needed for a minor injury including an x-ray. (You do not have to sit and wait like at A&E)

Whalley received his phone call within 10 minutes of our referral and has an appointment to attend this morning at 11am 😊😊

Fingers crossed Whalley’s hand is just badly bruised and not broken 🤞🏻

Poor Whalley has only been with us for 2 days and he’s already poorly! He has a really bad cold but we also think he may have a chest infection!

Luckily, as of 1st December 2025, we have new Acute Respiratory Infection Hubs available at Meadowfield Surgery and Belmont Surgery. Appointments are available Monday - Friday, 6:30pm to 8:30pm and Saturday during the day.

The hubs provide same day face to face assessments for patients with acute respiratory symptoms, helping to reduce A&E attendances and ease winter pressures across GP surgeries.

Appointments can be booked via your GP surgery - acute respiratory symptoms include:

✅ Cough
✅ Cold
✅ Chest
✅ Flu

Our lovely care navigator at Meadowfield has triaged / care navigated Whalley’s symptoms and booked him an appointment tonight at the respiratory hub 🤧

Thank you to everyone who attended our walk in smear clinic at Esh Winning on Saturday.

We won't be having a smear clinic in December but will be back in January with our first clinic of the New Year at Langley Park.

Further details will be advertised closer to the time ☺️
