Community invited to view plans for new homes in High Shincliffe

Banks Homes is bringing forward proposals for Whitwell Acres — a new development of up to 80 energy-efficient family homes on the south-eastern edge of High Shincliffe, near Durham City.

The plans include 35% affordable housing, a number of bungalows, and a 10% biodiversity net gain, with all homes featuring air source heat pumps and EV charging points.

Two community exhibitions will be held where residents can view the proposals, ask questions, and share feedback:

St Mary The Virgin Church Hall, High Shincliffe — Tuesday 25 Nov, 2:30–7pm
Bowburn Community Centre — Wednesday 3 Dec, 2–7:30pm

Community feedback will help shape the final plans before submission to Durham County Council in the new year.

Kate Culverhouse and James Seabury had a fantastic evening at the Darlington Stronger Communities Awards on Friday, surrounded by so many inspiring stories and people making a real difference.

We’re thrilled that Tees Cottage Pumping Station took home the Contribution to Community Award.

This win is a testament to the passion, pride, and dedication of the 81 incredible volunteers who give their time to keep this historic site alive — maintaining the engines, welcoming visitors, and preserving an important part of our region’s heritage.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved — your hard work truly keeps the heart of Tees Cottage pumping!

We’re excited to share that Banks Homes has submitted plans for the second phase of our The Pastures development in Hambleton, North Yorkshire.

Following the successful progress of phase one, which delivers 62 new homes, phase two proposes 75 additional high-quality homes – including bungalows and affordable family homes – all designed with sustainability in mind.

🌳 10% biodiversity net gain
👧 New recreational space for local children

This next phase strengthens our long-term commitment to bringing sustainable, much-needed homes to North Yorkshire – and supports the government’s goal of boosting UK housing supply.

Pending approval, we hope to begin work towards the end of 2026 and continue our investment in the local community and regional economy.

Welcoming Our New Graduates – Cohort 4 🌟

This week, we were delighted to host our Graduate Induction Day at Banks Homes Riverside, bringing together our newest cohort of talented graduates to begin their journey with the Banks Group.

The day featured insightful talks and introductions from across our business, including:

📘 Dan, Group Learning & Development Manager

We also heard inspiring stories and reflections from former graduates Matthew and Nat, who shared their experiences and career development within the Group.

Our Cohort 4 graduates then took the spotlight, delivering their own Getting to Know You presentations — a great way to learn more about the diverse backgrounds, skills, and passions they bring to Banks.

After lunch, the group visited Northumberlandia and Shotton Surface Mine, led by Louise, Contracts Manager for Banks Mining, offering valuable first-hand insight into our operational sites and environmental restoration work.

It was a fantastic day filled with learning, collaboration, and inspiration — and we’re excited to see what the future holds for our new graduates as they embark on their journey with Banks Group.

New community allotments bloom at Beamish!

Thanks to £19,944 from the Banks Community Fund, 12 new 1950s-style allotment plots have been created at Beamish Museum — supporting wellbeing, education, and community engagement.

The plots will be used by people living with dementia, school groups, carers, and volunteers, helping them connect through gardening while learning about the past.
