The Animal Chiropractor

The Animal Chiropractor Chiropractic is a profession concerned with the neuro-musculoskeletal system. Simply put we look at We also treat people of all ages.

Chiropractic is a professional title protected by law in the UK and Channel Islands. This means that as a profession, high standards can be guaranteed and maintained. All animal chiropractors have completed 4-5 years undergraduate human chiropractic training, are registered with the general chiropractic council and have then undertaken postgraduate animal chiropractic training. Both of our chiropr

actors completed training with the International Academy of Veterinary Chiropractic (Germany) and Options for Animals (Kansas, USA). In addition both chiropractors successfully completed the independent certification (consisting of a practical and written examination) of the IVCA (International Veterinary Chiropractic Association) and are registered with all major pet insurance providers. The combined experience of both chiropractors is now over 40 years. Horses recover more rapidly and have less re-exacerbations of conditions when their riders are treated as well. Agility handlers often feel as though their speed and agility (as well as that of their dog) improves with Chiropractic. Chiropractic generally involved manual, short lever manipulation but also can include soft tissue work, ultrasound, cold laser, kinesiotaping and acupuncture. We have experience of working with professional sports teams and individuals (rugby union and premiership football) as well as dressage, show jumping, agility etc.

What happens when you bring your dog for an initial consultation?

At NGCO Clinic we have now set aside longer (1 hour) initial consultation appointments. We might not need all of that time but it means that we can take our time and work at a pace appropriate for your canine companion.

When you arrive at the clinic we have a large car park. We might ask you to wait at your vehicle until we text you to come in. This sometimes occurs at busy times or when we know it is especially important to minimise stress by preventing interactions.

Initially, we will go through your concerns or requirements from the appointment. We'll take a thorough history. It's likely we will want to examine your dog so please bring along their favourite treat. We have a supply at the clinic too but are mindful your canine might have specific dietary requirements or allergies.

After a thorough history and physical examination it's likely that we will look to treat areas of concern. This might be by using traditional chiropractic techniques but will more than likely include a range of other tools such as soft tissue work, mobilisation, stretching, ultrasound, laser, theraplate, instrument assisted soft tissue techniques, rehabilitation strategies etc.

Why take your animal to a chiropractor for a check up when there is nothing in particular wrong?

As someone who has historically participated in agility with their dog, I appreciate the benefit of neuro-musculoskeletal maintenance for my own canine. Just like we go to the dentist for a check up, doing the same for our bodies and our canine's body is of tremendous benefit.

By seeing your dog at regular intervals for check ups we can:
✅ Establish base line normal for your dog
✅ Allow your animal to be familiar in the clinic surrounds and positively reinforce the environment in a low stress situation
✅ Sport subtle signs of dysfunction before they are really noticeable
✅ Familiarise your pet with different pieces of equipment
✅ Put in place a "pre-hab" (preventative rehabilitation programme) to optimise structure and function.

As the clinic has been exceptionally busy we haven't really posted a lot lately. However, we aim to improve that over the coming weeks and months.

To those that are new here, welcome. We hope you learn a little something that might be useful now or in the future.

We are a group of 5 chiropractors who all trained in human chiropractic and then went on to train at postgraduate level with Options for Animals - UK.

Chiropractic is a profession concerned with improving structure to have a positive effect on function. Simply put we want to improve how the nervous system can operate by correcting issues with the musculoskeletal system.

Most people think chiropractors adjust (specific manipulations) which we often do but did you know we also:
✅ Use therapeutic ultrasound
✅ Use cold laser
✅ Use the stance analyser
✅ Use a theraplate
✅ Give home care advice and rehabilitation strategies
✅ Work a lot with other healthcare providers e.g. hydrotherapist

It's so lovely to see all of the Crufts updates coming through. Huge congratulations to Steph Simpson and Winnie on their agility win today. Arthur enjoyed watching the play back. :) What a fantastic team. Well done also to Amy and Salem. 🥳 Well done to Heather C Corkin and the handsome one. Doing things even though their chiropractor tortures the human. :)

Sometimes it’s not obvious pain — it’s the little things. A dog slowing down, sitting a bit off, hesitating before jumping, or feeling stiff after rest can all be signs of restrictions in the body.

When joints aren’t moving well, surrounding muscles often tighten up to protect the area. Over time, that extra tension can turn into muscle strains or soreness. Chiropractic care helps reduce that stress by improving movement and balance throughout the body 💛

A lot of people are surprised to hear that dogs can get chiropractic care, but it actually makes a lot of sense when you think about how much their bodies do every day. Running, jumping, twisting, slipping on floors, playing hard, aging — it all adds up.

Over time, dogs can develop restrictions in the spine and joints, meaning certain areas just don’t move the way they should. When that happens, other parts of the body often have to work harder to compensate, which can lead to muscle tension and strain. Chiropractic care focuses on restoring normal movement so the whole body can function more comfortably 🐾

We see dogs of all ages at the clinic but it is worth giving a special mention to seniors.

Luckily, our dogs are living for longer and we know more now about nutrition, exercise and injury prevention than ever before.

Chiropractic for older dogs is designed to help them live more comfortably for as long as possible.

Older canine care is different to that which we provide for younger dogs. Muscle tension and joint restrictions sometimes exist to help stabilise things. It's harder for dogs as they age to cope with things like slippy floors, stairs, the contrast between the colder weather and the central heating. That's why we consider the neurology and work with each dog as an individual to optimise their musculoskeletal health relative to them and their environment.
