Great to see our new Liverpool Electrical training facility already in action!⚡

These photos are from the very first High Voltage training delivered in the newly fitted workshop, which forms part of the extensive training facility that we opened in the north west in August 2025. It’s fantastic to see the electrical space being used so soon after completion.

This cohort comes from Power Professionals Group, a nationwide specialist provider of energy infrastructure support, with a base in Wirral. Through bootcamp funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, their team has been developing key skills across several programmes, including:
🔸Authorised Person: High Voltage
🔸CITB Site Manager Safety Training Scheme
🔸Lift Planning for Basic Lifting Operations in the Wind Industry – Initial Training
🔸UK Offshore Legislation

Bootcamp funding has enabled the organisation to upskill its personnel in preparation for upcoming projects. Following the recent award of a new contract with a client in the wind sector, the team has also requested further bootcamp funding to train 10 additional individuals in a selection of GWO-approved courses.

It’s great to support organisations to invest in their people and building the skilled workforce needed for the growing renewable and energy sectors. 👏

🧗In the first of our new Meet the Team features, we’re introducing Mike McDowell, Rope Access/Working at Height Instructor at RelyOn Liverpool!!

With 30 years in the industry, Mike’s career quite literally began on a bridge over a river in the Peak District — where he passed his IRATA Level 1. A true sign of both his experience and just how far the industry has evolved!

Mike built his expertise across a unique range of projects — from repairing offshore lighthouses to excavating dinosaur fossils. In 2003, he moved into the Oil and Gas sector as a Rope Access Manager, a role he held for 18 years. That same year, he became an IRATA Instructor, progressing to IRATA Assessor in 2008.

His career has taken him across the globe, from West Africa to East Asia, and he has also lived in the USA and UAE. Along the way, he has established two IRATA Operator Memberships and two Training Memberships — a testament to his leadership and commitment to raising industry standards 👏

Since joining RelyOn in April 2024, Mike has been delivering IRATA training and GWO Working at Height & Advanced Rescue training. He also provides Competent Person PPE Inspection and ActSafe ACX Equipment Lifting training, and he designs bespoke working at height courses tailored to client needs.

🔥 Helideck and Fire/Emergency Response Training at RelyOn. We train specialist crews from the Oil & Gas and Maritime sectors, to respond safely, efficiently and confidently should an emergency occur on board their asset or vessel.

We do this through accredited, scenario-based training which reinforces the correct actions to take in the event of a fire. Our instructional teams consist of retained fire-fighters, ex-fire service, and ex-military personnel who have significant experience in the field 🧑‍🚒 .

Our facilities in Glasgow and Aberdeen are equipped with a range of fire simulators, modular rigs, and helidecks which create a realistic training environment.

📣 Aberdeen Training Centre Closure!!

☃️ Due to the huge volume of snow, we're currently experiencing across NE Scotland, we have made the decision to close our Aberdeen Survival Training centre on Tuesday 6th of January.

📧 Please check your emails if you're unsure if this includes your course. All delegates impacted have been contacted by email, if we haven't already managed to reach you by phone.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, however, the safety of our staff and delegates is our primary concern and we believe this is right action to take.

If you were due to train with us tomorrow, you will be rebooked onto an alternative course on a convenient date. Our customer experience team will be in touch to arrange this or you can reach them directly on:

Starting his journey in Gas Distribution back in 1995 as a Labourer, Martin worked his way up to Service Layer, then Main Layer, before becoming a Competent Person in 2000. His progression didn’t stop there as he was promoted to Supervisor in 2003 and reached a career highlight in 2019, becoming an Authorising Engineer.

Now, Martin’s stepping into training with one clear motivation: to share the knowledge, skills, and lessons he’s gained over nearly three decades in the industry.
