Valentine’s Day often focuses on romantic love . . . Flowers. Chocolates. Dinner reservations.

But what would it look like to practise self-love in a way that actually supports your body?

Simply pausing.

Many women in their 40s and beyond spend years caring for others; children, partners, ageing parents, colleagues — while quietly running on empty themselves.

True self-love isn’t always glamorous.
Sometimes it’s five quiet minutes with your hands resting gently on your face, softening the jaw, easing the forehead, allowing the nervous system to settle.

Facial massage isn’t about chasing youth.
It’s about reconnecting with yourself.

If your thoughts are racing at night,

This point between the eyebrows (the third eye) is a deeply calming point in Ayurveda.

Begin with slow, gentle circles at the third eye. Then sweep softly across the eyebrows, moving outward toward the temples.

These movements help:
✨ release mental tension held in the forehead
✨ calm the nervous system
✨ gently switch the body into rest mode

Even 60 seconds of this can signal safety to your body after a full day of doing, thinking, and caring for everyone else.

Let the pressure be light.
Let the breath be slow.

Why facial massage matters

Many of us carry a lot in the face — clenching the jaw, tightening around the eyes, holding it all together without realising.

Facial massage isn’t about looking younger or fixing anything.

It’s about softening, letting go, and giving the nervous system a chance to settle — even for a few minutes.

When life is full (work, family, responsibility), small daily rituals matter.

2016 was the year that changed me forever.
I became a mum.

“How hard could it be?”
Everyone made it look so easy. No one really spoke about the hardship. They’d just say, “You’ll find a way.”

But I didn’t have the village.
I solo-parented a lot in those early years. The emotional and physical strain was intense. I felt alone. I felt broken.

There was no time for the gym, spa days, long lunches with friends. . . those things became luxuries.
So I found healing in small pockets of kindness to myself.

An extra five minutes in the shower with a body scrub infused with essential oils.
Walking to work after daycare drop-off just to breathe fresh air and move my body.
Foot soaks while watching TV in the evening (let’s not pretend we don’t binge watch in the evening 😂).
Journaling to unload the anxiety.
A gentle face massage before bed to help me decompress and finally sleep.

Tiny acts. But they kept me going . . . and still keep me going.

Ayurvedic remedies helped me feel stronger, inside and out.

And then… I found my people.
A group of mums who got it.
We found friendship. No judgement. No fixing. Just shared experiences and honesty.

I realised something powerful: I wasn’t alone.

Those small acts of self-care and connection brought me back to myself.
And I want you to know — if you’re in it right now — you’re not alone either.

That’s why I love organising monthly socials. A moment to step away from the chaos and just be you.
And why I offer facial massages — for when your nervous system needs to soften, your body needs to exhale, and your mind needs rest.

Motherhood shouldn’t be done alone.
Womanhood shouldn’t be done alone.
