More young people are finding it harder to access professional mental health support. 📣

Our latest Mindometer survey shows the impact of this gap. Almost three in five therapists (58%) working with children under 18 say that children’s mental health has deteriorated compared to last year.

This is not about a lack of expertise. We already have a trained therapy workforce ready to meet the growing need. What is missing is the funding to provide universal access to counselling in all schools and colleges.

The 5th of February is Time to Talk Day — a reminder to break down the stigma surrounding mental health, have healthier conversations about our struggles, and find ways to open up without fear of judgement.

Therapy can be a safe space for that, but many people don’t arrive feeling safe right away, especially if they’ve had difficult experiences in the past. Often, when someone shares that they’re not feeling great, the response they get is a practical solution or a series of “why” questions: Why did that happen? Why did you do that? Why do you think that?

For me, “why” isn’t always helpful. It can make people shut down. “What” keeps the conversation going.
What happened? I wonder what was going on for you? I’m curious what was going through your mind?

The more curious we are, the easier it becomes to keep talking. This is true whether you’re speaking with your child, your partner, or your friends.

Give it a try — and keep the conversation going.

We’re all set up and ready to go at Earls Colne Rec for the Autism Inclusive event today! If you’re curious about counselling or have any questions come say hi 🙂
We’ve got leaflets for parents on how to support your child through counselling, fidget toys and bubbles, and ideas for resources to help you connect with your child and think about how they feel - once we can make sense of our feelings they’re so much easier to manage. We’ve also got some book recommendations for anyone who wants to understand themselves a bit better, can’t wait to see you there!

🌲💚 Evergreen CIC – Christmas & Mental Health 💚🌲

Christmas can be a joyful time, but it can also feel incredibly overwhelming, lonely, or emotionally tough. At Evergreen CIC, we know the season can bring pressure, financial stress, family tensions, and memories that are hard to bear.

If Christmas feels heavy this year, you’re not alone, and your feelings matter.

Take things at your own pace, set gentle boundaries, and reach out if you need support. We’re here to offer a calm, understanding space throughout the festive season.

Let’s look after ourselves and each other this Christmas. 💚🌲

🌿 Exciting News! 🌿

I’m delighted to share that I’m now a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)! 🎉

Becoming part of the BACP feels like a real milestone — it represents not just professional recognition, but also a commitment to the highest standards of ethical and effective practice.

The BACP does incredible work in supporting counsellors and psychotherapists, advocating for the value of therapy, and ensuring the public can access safe, high-quality support. It’s inspiring to be part of a community that’s so dedicated to improving mental health and wellbeing for all. 💚

Here’s to continuing to grow, learn, and make a difference — alongside such a respected organisation!

Today is World Mental Health Day, and I’ve been reflecting on the power of listening to really change someone’s life. It sounds so simple! And yet we can find it so hard to sit and really hear what someone is saying. As parents we’re used to hearing and responding to practical needs; “I’m hungry!” “I’m tired,” “I’m thirsty,” “Can you play with me?” We can do something about these things, and it feels finished. But when a child says “I hate myself,” “I’m ugly,” “I’m no good,” we feel our anxiety rise and we say things like, “No you’re not! You’re brilliant, you’re beautiful, you’re amazing!” to reassure them. What we need to teach ourselves to do is reflect and respond to the feeling instead of shutting it down, because then we show our child we’re really listening. A simple “It sounds like you’re telling me you don’t like yourself very much right now” can do wonders to open up a conversation instead of shutting it down. “It sounds like things are really tricky for you” keeps the door open instead of closing it.

In therapy, listening is a simple and powerful tool, and it’s the best one we have in our arsenal. I will not interrupt you, I will not shut you down, and I will listen to whatever you want to give me, and we’ll go wherever you want to take us – together.
